Doesn’t matter guys; his mind is made up. No amount of contrary data or facts will change it.

I’m not sure what these people expect from the boo birds when the Sox get off to a nice start.

But we are making every pitcher look like an All Star.

Sox have the 5th best run differntial in baseball.

This is a different argument than you running down Kirby just because you didn't know who he was.

Early expectations were maybe 3-7 or 4-6 on this swing.

The Sox have a chance to go 8-2 with a worst case now if 5-5.

However, like Boston, the Angels are off to a surprising good start at 4-2. The last 3 might not be as easy as anticipated…

PER BTV SPECIAL OF THE DAY

Bello

Mayer

Kirby

But.. but.. but those trades NEVER HAPPEN!! That means that platform is useless. Or that you’re jinxing it! You jinx person!

But in all honesty, that’s actually a pretty good trade…

Angels just got to play the NL A's who just went 0-7 at home.

For me, it just showed how much more value Kirby has than Bello. Kirby is a 3/4 fWAR guy. Bello has topped out at 1.6. Kirby already is what we project Bello to be at his ceiling.

Seattle is very unlikely to make that deal, especially since mlb.com lists 6 SS prospects in their top 17, and the only reason to even consider the deal is if they need a SS.

Of course most of those SS prospects won’t stick at SS if they make MLB at all. But I think they’ll take that chance and keep Kirby. Still it was a solid value for him..

This brings up Mayer -- if he knocks the cover off the ball and shows he's ready for promotion this summer, what position does he play? Story and his contract are Boston's for three more years after this one...

And right now Story looks pretty valuable with his sterling defense, leadership qualities and RH bat (hopefully).

Trade Mayer? Trade Grissom?

Crag will figure something out.

According to Brez all winter, Mayer is one of his Three Prayers.

Meanwhile, the handsome Griz is already a darling of NESN's dancing Red Sox player promotions.

I'm so confused!

Yeah, I don't necessarily believe the Mariners would be likely to make that trade. Anthony has too much value to swap in for Mayer. Sox would have to go Bello/Teel/Bleis to match value. I think M's are happy with Kirby and aren't likely to trade him unless another team overpays.

His promotion would be to AAA. I don't think they are going to rush him to MLB. So far, he's really struggled with offspeed stuff and with the trend in MLB, he'd get eaten alive. I think there's zero chance we see him in BOS this year.

At best, he'd come up at the end of the year and play 2B/SS/3B as a fill in. I don't think they'd hand him a starting role. His most professional PA's in a season is 424. I think they'll take it easy on him due to his ongoing injury issues.

Grissom is a pre-ARB player. If he shows a little bit this year, but Sox really believe in the big 3, maybe they move on from Grissom next offseason or push him to the OF. He's a RHB and they don't have a lot of those guys.

If Story can't really hit, I don't see another team wanting to trade for him. Mayer is good at SS, but not as good as Story right now. I think they are ultimately stuck with Story unless they are going to eat a lot of his salary. I don't know how willing Henry will be to do that. With Sale, it was for just one year. Also, Story has an opt out after 2025 which hurts his trade value to any other team that actually wants him around for a few years.

The best problem to have is Devers playing a solid 3b, Story hitting well, Grissom finding his feet at 2b and Mayer making a lot of noise in MiLB.

I think Story's bat will come around- just not to the level it was a few years ago. Maybe, .750-.825.

Some team would take him at .725-.750, if we paid some of his contract. SS defense is still highly valued in MLB

I know who Kirby is and I know that he is good, but we are making every pitcher including Kirby look like an All Star. A 3.30 career ERA is great, but we put up 0’s against him.

Time for the Mike Mussina quote on variances in pitching performance:

Out of 32 starts, you're going to have 8 where everything is working, 8 where nothing is working, and 16 where something is working.

And our lineup can make a pitcher look like everything is working when only something is working.

I guess the point is, we make all star pitchers look like all star pitchers.

It's luck of the draw. Sometimes you face a good pitcher who's got his best stuff that day.

I'm not sure why an all star pitcher pitching a good game against the Sox is something that needs to be rehashed, so much.

Exactly.

Getting blanked by Kirby? No shame.

Getting nearly blanked by Ross Stripling? Not horrible but certainly worse than getting blanked by Kirby…

Like Stripling yesterday?

Stripling was an All Star. He was a very good pitcher until injuries really got to him. He pitched better in 2022 than Bello has ever pitched in his life.
