Playtime is over, and now on to Seattle, and to play for real. A West Coast road trip is a good way to start the season especially an early March start, which is a rainy in the 40’s forecast in Boston on Thursday, and Friday, so enjoy the late games, and hopefully a good start.

Rafeala with an amazing full extension catch in center field today!!! Duran is not making that catch

RAFAELA is going to make a lot of plays in centerfield that a lot of center fielders aren’t going to make.

If he can put up a .310 sort of OBP - he is going to be an immensely valuable player.

He has some power and speed, too, so I agree, .310 or even a little lower is acceptable.

He's going to be fun watching in CF, this season.

Let the games begin!

He'll also swing at a lot of pitches other hitters wouldn't swing at.

The Sox ended up 19-12 with a +21 run differential: both 3rd in the Grapefruit League.

Utterly meaningless.

I think it matters that Whitlock has added a pitch. I think it matters that Story looks confident and healthy. I think it matters that the Sox have determined that they want Rafaela to start in CF. I think it matters that Duran is still hitting. I think it matters that we've seen immediate returns from Bailey.

Maybe it matters that Story has actually had a spring training for once…

It's more about him being HEALTHY.

'22 arm issue we knew about

Lots of things that mattered for such a meaningless thing.

It only matters for the Grapefruit and Cactus champs -- because the Orioles and Dodgers look great.

Spring Training records don't matter for the other two .600 teams -- Detroit and Boston -- because they were trying to look great.

Especially the Red Sox, with their 13-2 home mark -- tops among of all 30 clubs; they were only good at home because they played their big leaguers vs. visitors' minor leaguers (which the other 29 teams do, too).

He ended 2021 in COL with the arm injury that he got modified TJS for.

Black added that there was little to report in terms of Story’s status, but “tightness is still apparent in the forearm and around the elbow."

Tightness or not, he signed on March 23 and missed almost all of Spring Training. I’m sure he had some facility he worked out at, but it’s not the same. Very few players seem to miss spring training and jump right in ready to go…

He had a bad April for sure, but he bounced back in May only to suck again in June and July. I don't think that was due to missing Spring Training. More likely due to the underlying injury issues.

Let’s put it this way - missing spring training didn’t help. Especially since he was facing a bunch of pitchers s couple months ahead of him…

Story Land has been closed more often than opened so far in his tenure in Boston. Some for repair, and maintenance, and some for just plain sucking. The glove is there, and now the bat has to match.

I'm hopeful for this year, but it's far from a guarantee.

Wow.

Notin's original point was that he sucked because he missed ST. I said he sucked because of injury. We haven't convinced each other. If he's great this year, I'll say it's because he's healthy and notin will say it's because he had a Spring Training. If he sucks this year, I'll say it's because there's another underlying injury we don't know about and notin will say that Spring Training needs to be extended until May 1.

Yes, I fully understand the positions each of you took.

I just posted his OPS from a certain point of the season to show he ended it pretty well. You countered with one less flattering, and I countered with some shorter ones that looked even better.

Why the "wow?"

I will go along with the first part - bring in sitting training should help.

Of course the outcome could also be that he gets hurt and misses a lot of time…
