The amount of playing time Dalbec is getting suggests he's staying on the 26.

Since he's only hitting 811 this ST, he's obviously saving something for the regular season.

West Coast trips are actually an excellent rest opportunity for the whole team, since we usually suck on them anyway.

Maybe OB should take a sick day or five as well?

@tylermilliken_

Alex Cora told @bradfo that he believes Chris Martin will be ready for Opening Day.

He’ll try to throw his first live BP once again on Saturday.

Kenley Jansen has also been progressing well. 8th and 9th inning should be in good shape once the season starts.

Poor OB, he does his best. If they could do something about his voice I think he'd be more tolerable.

Are you saying that Romy doesn't take his career seriously?

I'm sure he does. But I am not so sure he and the other two I mentioned also the 26 man roster to start the season, barring couple more injuries. Especially if Cron (also in that opening day lineup) does make the team.

Gotta like the positivity!

Turn off the sound and listen to Castiglione?

His voice is fine, it's the words that come out that I don't like.

Cron and Joely have opt outs if they are not on the Opening Day Roster.

Joely stands a good chance. No really sure about Cron. Best hitter of the candidates, but lest versatile defensively. Assuming Refsnyder and Grissom start the year on the IL, and Valdez (2b starter?), McGuire and Reyes are locks, that leaves Cron, Dalbec, Gonzalez, and Hamilton for the last two spots.

Cron is the only one with no options remaining. That might give him the inside track...

Cron - 1B/DH

Dalbech - 1B/3B/SS/2B/RF - Brock Holt role

Yes I said Cron was the least versatile. But if he makes the team, they can demote the other three.

Of course with Refsnyder out, two of the others might make the team. González also offers a ton of versatility…

Didn’t he sign a minor league deal?

I was forecasting who would make the roster.

He has an opt out.

I did not realize the opt out was 5 days prior to opening day.

Send Bobby Dee to AAA. Maybe try to sneak him through waivers, but I have others above him on my DFA list.

The others can go back and forth between the majors and minors

It's nice that they have the options to do that.

At this point, the Sox should just sign Jordan Montgomery.

I know they have been sending clear messages that they are running up a white flag on 2024. But they do need fans to come and buy tickets at some point.

Also since he has made 0 spring training appearances, Montgomery himself might not exactly be prepped for 2024. And unlike fellow Boras Four members Bellinger, Chapman and Snell, Montgomery would be ill-advised to take a short deal with an opt out only to re-enter the market next year. Unlike the other 3, Montgomery could very easily have a Qualifying Offer attached next off-season. Add that to a season possibly hampered by a late start, and another year of age, and next offseason could actually be even less exciting for Montgomery. At least Bellinger, Chapman and Snell will all be ineligible for a QO.

So go for it, Boston. Montgomery will probably be much better in 2025, when he starts working out on time. And he can be joined by Lucas Giolito and Liam Hendricks on a pitching staff with some serious promise…

I agree.

He would also be projected to be a big plus in 2025 and a plus for 2026 and 2027, if the deal went that long.

Don't give a no trade clause, if possible.

Agreed -- let Brez word it so that not even extreme court jesters can overrule it; basically, the opposite of Giolito's contract.

The Oppolito Clause: if he reaches incentives, he gets to stay in the rotation... it he reaches outcentives, he's frigging o-u-t out.

Shouldn’t we wait until after may 1st?????

Why? No penalty for Monty.

people on here need to stop dreaming on Montgomery UNLESS he agrees to sign a short term deal which at this point he has shown no inclination to do so.

I'm not dreaming. I am highly suspect it happens.

I do think it would go a long way towards giving us hope for 2024, while still being impactful for 2025 and 2026. The cost should not be really high.

so you think that tightwad Henry will approve a 5-6 year deal on Montgomery?

We all know Spring Training won-loss records don't mean much to many.

But here's an interesting take from MLB Sirius' Eduardo Perez (paraphrased): "Home records are what I look at, because clubs mostly send minor leaguers on bus trips to road games. Veteran big leaguers usually stay around home camps, to get their reps preparing for the season in home games."

Makes sense. But does this: Most ST home wins -- Red Sox 9, tied with LA Dodgers (each have 2 Ls).

Wouldn’t those home records be built off of facing minor leaguers sent on bus trips to road games?
