The more I think about it, the more they should hire from within. There’s a lot of guys deserving who if not giving this chance will likely end up elsewhere over the next few years.

At least one of the two positions should be filled within. And it might just so happen that person could be among some of the best for the position.

This isn’t the prediction thread, but I think this will all end with the Sox promoting Romero..,

Well it was the prediction thread but the guys has to go ruin it!!! I suppose a discussion thread about the position and not the players on the team is pretty cool too.

I like Romero, and think he gets one of the promotions. I think they augment him with someone from outside the organization.

How many of these jobs are actually given out based on the strength of the interview?

I'm not trying to make a point, here, but I do wonder how much the interviews even matter.

It feels like he'll at least get the GM position. Will they hire a CBO? Do they even need a CBO? Maybe someone short term to work with Eddie for a year or two? IDK.

I am sure it helps a little. But I think the interviews as much as anything is helping gain some industry intel.

It probably does but it’s certainly not the greatest ideal always. Business needs continuity and unless someone is doing something criminal or damaging to your business with malice it often makes sense to have a replacement first.

I’m a business owner. There are certain positions that are very vital to my business and I can’t afford much down time. If I know I’m letting said person go, I’m looking for their replacement first. Then when I find them I’m firing.

I could not agree more with this. My office has a strategic alliance with another law office in the are, making us essentially one bigger law office. Because of a sudden issue between one of my partners and my secretary, I had to fire her, severance and all, without a ready replacement, and it was a complete f***ing disaster. I was extremely lucky to, by chance, be able to hire the sister of one of my ex-gf's of all people, who had just moved into the city and had secretarial experience in law offices.

Moral of the story: You need to keep your s*** together at the organizational level or risk severe dysfunction.

Put a gun to my head, and I'd say a lot of these candidates are turning down the chance of running the Red Sox because John "Reptilian" Henry won't make up his goddamn mind about the direction this franchise will go long term.

I think, if it's a close call between 2 or more candidate, the interview(s) probably make a difference, but I think these guys already have a pretty clear pecking order of who they want, and the interview is just a process to see if the guy is onboard with or can get on board with the plan already in place. Maybe someone blows them away and jumps a slot of two on the list, or says all the wrong things and moves down, some, but I think they already know who they want the most, second most, third most...

I think Huntington sounds like the sort of guy the team would hire to mentor a young GM - like how the team hired Allard Baird to work with Theo.

Considering how they are running the interviews with a 1st round/2nd round ... right now I am sure the candidates have been sorted by pass/fail - and not much else. I suspect this Round 2 is where they'll have some real answers - and possibly get a window into how other FOs are doing stuff.

If he was a reptilian, he'd have much more power and cunning than he's currently showing...

As long as Huntington isn't going to be making any trades... He got roasted in PITT every time he called another GM.

He's at the bottom of my list.

There have to be a couple dumb reptilians too.

Come on now. All you reptilians know each other.

No, I'm just related to the Hopkinsville goblin. Unfortunately, I didn't win the DNA lottery and get to be Plejaren.

A lot of candidates see a very reactive, thin skinned management and uprooting one's family is an ordeal if management is going to lose patience in year 3 of a 5 year plan.

The only way to fix that is to OVERPAY.

Well, the Komodo dragon can reproduce both sexually and asexually... but I'm too dumb to know if that's smart or they just think it's a good idea at the time.

THE Hopkinsville goblin? There was a swarm of them!!

Also they were painted monkeys that don’t bleed and die when shot…

And yet there’s only like 6 of them left…

I reject this accusation.

I don’t think overpaying would help with the reasons interviews are being turned down in the first place. I don’t believe the Red Sox are in a very good light All throughout MLB. I haven’t seen, or heard anything since Bloom was fired that was of anything that’s positive, and getting worse as the rejections mount.

It's hard to know what order these people turning down interviews or the job are in the pecking order, but one would think the ones you want the most would be the first to be offered an interview.

Maybe some might be waiting until after the WS to talk.

Maybe Romero is the guy they wanted, all along, but are kicking the tires for someone better or someone who will work with Eddie for a couple years to help him be totally ready for the whole job.

It's hard to know, and there is a lot of speculation out there. A lot of theories.

Nobody really knows for sure what the plan is. (We don't even know if Sox brass has a clear grasp on a plan.)

If their talks are about finding someone to "groom" Romero and Cora, I can see why so many are walking away.

I can also see why some are leery about the way the Sox have been doing things, period.
