I'd be happy with that, but we'd be under the cap by enough to get a 2Bman. Why not?

(Maybe include EValdez in a trade.)

Getting a 2b shouldn’t be such the hamstring. Not ever sure why hitting LHP is the priority. Just get someone who can field the position. His 3-4 PA in the 40ish games the Sox face a LHSP isn’t likely to have the same impact as the 600-700 chances a full time 2b can see in the field.

I’m ok with defense and moderate offense from either side. But a 2b who can field and slugs from the left side (Jake Cronenworth, for example) shouldn’t be eliminated from consideration…

I have mixed emotions on acquiring Montgomery and Burnes. And all of them are based on how many Simpsons’ references I think I can handle…

Montgomery & Barnes would be a Homer.

Defense is the given.

I didn't think it needed to be stated.

Our bats are lefty heavy. I'd prefer a RH'd bat with some power, if possible.

Unless they're pitching to Bart (a catcher definitely available, after losing his job to a rookie on the team where the Sox recruited their new pitching coach).

It would have to be Bart since the Sox already lost out on Tom “Bleeding Gums” Murphy…

Never seen it.

It’s overrated.

I’m pretty sure the movie was pitched by someone saying “I’m thinking ‘Bull Durham,’ but, and here’s the twist, in the majors!”

Monty and Burnes with an extension.

The Dodgers just did it with Glasnow, so now we know the trade-contingent-on-extension is still a thing.

Burnes has decreased all of his important stats every year the past three years. Hard pass please. Montgomery-Imanaga please

Pretty much. Bull Durham is very very good - I always thought it had the rhythms of what it must be like to actually play down. (with some comic effect of course) I think Shelton (the director) played minor league ball and it shows.

As long as our Outfielders don't develop any child cough syrup addictions.

Cronenworth's contract sucks. Easy pass.

Major League is better than Bull Durham because Kevin Costner is the worst.

Yeah, why can't Burnes be a 7.5 fWAR guy every year? What gives????

Burnes' Statcast is red hot RED. Montgomery's statcast is a mild grey.

But Burnes used to be better!!! Need that Montgomery malaise...

Corbin Burnes last 3 years

ERA: 2.43, 2.94, 3.39

K/9: 12.6, 10.8. 9.3

WHIP: 0.940, 0.965, 1.069

FIP: 1.64, 3.14, 3.81

BB/9: 1.8, 2.3, 3.1

Three years of constantly decreasing results on every aspect of a guy's results is a trend. You'll pay for the extraordinary 2021 Burnes and get a much more ordinary Burnes.

Montgomery will make 50% of what Burnes makes and will not cost prospects.

Now compare Burnes' numbers to Monty's. Burnes' is decreasing from a career best in 2021, but his 2023 season is still better than what Monty is doing. He throws more innings. He gets more k's. He has a lower WHIP.

I too like to go to Make s*** Up University sometimes for argument's sake.

You don't think Burnes will make 300 mill on an extension/FA based on his platform years? I have a bridge here in Santo Domingo I'd like to sell you for cheap.

You think Monty will get 150?

Around 175, and Burnes above 325, so if my calculations are right, and they're right 100% of the time, 50% of the time, Montgomery will make right around 50% of what Burnes will make.

He doesn't want to get the ace. He wants to settle for a #2.

I want an ace and a number 2. If Monty outpitches Burnes, we'll be in great shape.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The Sox have one of the largest FO's in baseball (maybe even the largest) and a lot of it is at the tippy top. I can see having a lot of voices down on the farm working with individual players, but the sheer amount of EVP's this org rolls out is staggering. Because of this, no matter what direction Crag wants to take the team, there is going to be a dissenting opinion from another higher up that will be leaked to the press. It is not an ideal workplace and it's not one where quick decisions are probably fostered.

Didn't the Red Sox just hire another coordinator?

Yeah, they hired a new "hitting coordinator" named Dillon Lawson. The guy the Yankees turfed mid-season. :P

The Coordinator roles aren't an issue IMO. The problem is the 18 SVP and EVP's. That doesn't even count Sammy Wormtongue Kennedy.
