Yes, I know I that had coming. But Yoshida makes considerably more money, is a lousy defender and is slow as molasses in January. I haven't just been criticizing the decline in his OPS.

I assume you’ve never had molasses in January in Florida…

yeah, if i was going to trade an outfielder, i think i'd rather trade Yoshida than Duran.

Trading shouldn’t be about unloading a player.

Will you get back a better player/pitcher for Yoshida or Duran? Especially since many are focusing on Duran’s most important skill - the ability to be rostered at the MLB minimum for another season.

of course, but i also see Yoshida's ridiculous cost as $$$ that could be better spent elsewhere.

If we can get salary relief b trading Yoshida, and the key her is, we use it on another signing, that has value, too.

I could see us asking for offers on Dugo, Duran and Yoshida, but we won't trade more than one. I doubt we trade any.

That's precisely why Masataka Yoshida would bring back far less in a trade. The potential trade partner would rather spend that money elsewhere.

Next year the total AAV for Devers, Story and Yoshida is 72.7 million.

Hopefully they will improve on their 2023 collective fWAR of 3.1...

We are not going to get much for Yoshida because of his bloated contract.

yeah, yeah....i get that. like Moon mentioned, i was mainly thinking of salary relief.

They will. Take that to the bank.

Yeah, Yoshida is pretty much a sunk cost for 2024...

Wow - didn't see this one coming from the voices here. Hopefully this doesn't go down as just one other signing by Bloom to make the fan base actually feel like they are doing something constructive.

So we're assuming a guy who's not even 30, with a great offensive skillset, who's had one bad month while adjusting to a new league and country is a sunk cost for 2024? Y'all are f***ing ridiculous.

Yes, but if you get a single A player and get the salary relief, the idea is you then sign a better FA with the money saved, that is, if you think Bloom can and will do that.

And next year it will be a 10+ fWAR, so what's your point?

The book is out on Yoshida! His weakness is cross country plane rides and switching time zones!

And what would be a reasonable contract for a guy who can OPS above .800 is under 30 on a first division team you HOPE will compete for the playoffs?

Posted
Agree 100% on this. Duran’s luster had come off before he got hurt.

True, but it appeared to come off earlier in the year too and he did get hot again for a while. I don't think he's going to be a stud, or the one he appeared to be when first called up. But I think he will be a decent player.

Maybe, but we would not be signing Duvall based on him being slightly better than Abreu in CF on D.

Better and a proven bat. Abreu isn't even guaranteed to make the 26-man next year let alone be an everyday player.

I like young talent, but I can only stomach so much on a roster, those guys flop all the time too.

Like Dalbec after 2021? (.819 career after '21)

My point is not about Duvall vs Abreu, it's about signing a LF v a CF/RF'er.

Duvall doesn't want to play CF going forward. Abreu can and will play CF if needed to. However, that should only be to backup Rafaela.

So you think a Yoshida trade won’t involve eating money?

Duvall probably doesn’t come back.

If Rafaela makes the team as the starting CF, Abreu should go to Worcester and await inevitable injuries…

Duvall/Abreu RF

Rafaela CF

Yoshida/Refsnyder LF

Verdugo is traded, Turner goes elsewhere, Duvall comes back and Yoshida gets many more DH appearances. Refsnyder might not make it through the 2024 season without being DFA'd.

Duran in AAA or what?
