I'm leaning towards a trade for our #1, and signing a #3 for our #2.

I hope I'm wrong, because after Yama, Snell and Monty go, the clubs sitting on the best trade options will be calling the shots. And the cost will hurt more than just losing an expendable outfield prospect with a flaw or two in his game...

I'm thinking we sign Monty or Lugo.

We'll trade Mayer, Yorke and whoever pitcher out of Wikelman, Perales or one from the 26 man roster that Brez likes the least for an ace type pitcher

The other stuff has no impact on the Red Sox. It's a completely separate pool of money.

Nobody said anything about it not being a separate pool of money. I said he has a lot more interest now than he did before like the latest PGA adventure.

Lugo as our top signing, wow.

If Lugo is the top signing, there better be a HUGE trade.

I'm not really sold on Lugo at all.

How does that impact his Red Sox payroll in the least?

I’m definitely in the Lugo No Go category. I like him for the Giants. They fix every pitcher and don’t need to go all in for aces…

Maybe the Sox go Montgomery and a trade?

They get a guy who is a solid #2 and eats innings. Then use prospect capital to get the ace they need at the top.

Who was it on the Giants that fixed all those guys? Not Bailey?

Prediction:

Red Sox sign Montgomery

Mets sign Yamamoto

Blue Jays sign Snell

Giants sign Lugo

Dodgers sign Imanaga

Yankees sign Stroman

I'd just swap the Jays and Dodgers predictions ATM.

Hopefully. I think he was pitching coach when they turned Gausman into a real SP…

I thought we'd be exercising our financial might a bit this offseason.

"Sox sign Casas extension before Winter Weekend."

There, that should make the crowd happy! - JH

Possible.

But my thoughts are the Dodgers are smart enough to avoid Snell…

No love for Pablo Reyes?

Who was talking about payroll? More different interest means just that, and the main priority to take down the evil empire just isn’t there anymore. Interest does not mean payroll, which you seem to be hung up on. Like I keep saying the PGA would be a new toy, and the Red Sox are his old toy. Disagree is fine, but at least know what we are disagreeing about.

Last time Lugo was the Sox first big offseason signing, they won the World Series.

That same winter, Boston also added an outfielder who once had a WAR season of 8.3, plus two key pitchers from Japan!

It's all happening...

Technically they signed a Japanese pitcher the week before…

So now that he doesn't care about the Red Sox, what negative impact does it have? What are you implying if not a lower payroll?

If it is, the sham should be clear for all to see, even if we add a decent 2Bman, Catcher and RF'er, too.

Posted
Hey if we get a better pitcher via trade, is that so bad?

No. I'd be happy with Burnes (extended) and Lugo plus a good all around 2Bman.

Once again where does it say JH doesn’t care about the Red Sox? You are doing the reading into something that happens all the time on here, and running with it rather it’s the point, or not. Doesn’t have as much interest in the Red Sox, or having no interest at all are two different things. How many other adventures did JH have when he bought the Red Sox? How many other adventures does he have now? Is there not a difference? PGA is the latest adventure, so if you still think that JH has as much interest in the Red Sox as when he first bought the Red Sox that’s fine, and we just disagree, but it’s not something that should take up this much time, and effort. Nothing wrong at all with disagreeing. No harm. No foul.
