So the Mets, Giants and Yankees have met with Moto.

Is there are any news about the Sox meeting with him?

Maybe they've thrown in the towel already.

It reduces the AAV to about $46 million a year.

The deferral will presumably also be helpful to Ohtani, because his off-field income is so high right now.

The accountants for the two sides probably had an orgy after this deal was made.

By orgy, you just mean pizza party, right?

I wonder if MLB has a problem with that amount of money being deferred .

They'll have to work that out in the next CBA.

As it stands right now:

-We passed on 2 reasonable deals with Gray and E-Rod.

-Now, supposedly, we're in the Moto auction, against all the other high rollers, which may not be settled until early January.

-Snell and Montgomery might wait until after Moto signs, hoping their price goes up.

I have a very uneasy feeling that we don't have a very good plan at all.

E-Rod would have been the reasonable deal after the 2021 season when he was two years younger. I hope Bres isn’t looking for that third option in the fork in the road too. It could be a Yale thing.

I'm with you. While I am holding out hope, I refuse to accept things have changed, until I see it happen.

I thought Gray was a good idea due to the shorter deal.

I think ERod probably wanted to avoid BOS, but I could be wrong.

I'd prefer Monty, Imanaga, and of course Yamo to ERod, anyway, so until they are off the boards (and trades are done), a final grade cannot be given.

He is saving the one he thinks he wants to sign with for last.

Makes sense.

Sonny Gray was too rich for our blood at a whopping $75 million. Much better waiting around. Following the Bloom template.

Career tOPS+ split vs AL East:

Sox - 147

Rays - 141

Jays - 111

O's - 110

Yanks - 97

Maybe he shouldn't be pitching in this division?

He wasn’t that impressive when he was in a Yankee uniform either.

The plan is to sign Yamamoto. How has it changed the past few weeks?

I won't hold that against him. The overall picture isn't ideal though. He dominates bad teams. IDK. I guess I'm not a Gray guy?

How has it changed the last two weeks? His asking price has gone up, and more than just a little.🙈

We knew it'd be 300ish?

It's looking more and more like a losing plan. All the high rollers are in.

Why would Moto choose the Sox? You really think Henry is going to out-Cohen Cohen on this one?

Anything's possible, but Moto in a Sox uniform doesn't really feel probable.

The Red Sox have outbid the field when they're really interested in a player, multiple times. The problem isn't whether if they can outbid the field, because they're in a great position to do so. It's whether they want to.

The field has gotten a lot bigger, and the price has gotten a lot higher now than Anything the Red Sox have done in the past. The past has no revelation of what’s going on today.

Why can't they Sox spend? They've spent in the past? They used to be at the top of the mountain? What has changed?

I humbly submit that the Red Sox have never been in an auction like this one. It's unprecedented to have all the richest teams in on the same guy at once.

Plus Moto probably has some ideas on where he'd like to play. California, the Big Apple, or Boston? Think Boston wins as the most appealing destination?

So out of the Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees, which one of those teams are the Red Sox going to outbid?

Why are the Sox NOT in that picture?

Henry changed, it seems, in 2019.

The field was always the same. I don't know who thought only one or two teams would want the best pitcher on the market, especially when they are only 25. That guy should be sought after by 6-7 teams.

It’s amazing that you guys keep talking about spending in the past. What has changed is that the mountain has gotten a lot higher, and there are more people on it.

Because they won’t compete money wise. The Red Sox got their prize in Yoshida where they outbid everyone else by a large margin so much so that Boris shut things down the first day, which had never been done before. The Red Sox will not outbid any of the big spenders for the Yam Man no matter how much you wish it come true.

So what? They have enough money and payroll space to sign Yamamoto if they want to. Are you implying Henry doesn't have the money to sign whoever the hell he wants? Because that's silly.

Posted
If Henry wasn't interested in paying Mookie Betts, what makes us think he's going to do whatever it takes to sign Moto?

Because if he doesn't spend on the product, it will hurt his bottom line. The fanbase is restless and the team is sucking. He will feel it in his pockets,

How in the hell do you know?
