i'm sure it would. thereby proving what many said to begin with -that Bloom overpaid for him.

If the point is to clear up salary for better use, then maybe Yoshida isn’t the guy to move. Especially if the Sox pay a substantial amount…

Duvall/Abreu RF

Rafaela CF

Yoshida/Refsnyder LF

Verdugo is traded, Turner goes elsewhere, Duvall comes back and Yoshida gets many more DH appearances. Refsnyder might not make it through the 2024 season without being DFA'd.

Your infield defense sucks…

this is true. i have no idea what his value is but if we could unload him and all of his salary, i'd do it.

I’d unload Story first. But I doubt that happens.

Bloom probably overpaid for him, but this off-season just about every free agent was a massive overpayment. Except Kodai Senga. I thought the Sox best target would be Brandon Nimmo, but he wound up getting 8 years $160mill.

Yoshida’s contract at least isn’t insanely long. Four more years tops.

I really don't know how to address the BIG elephant in the room question (starting pitching) but I did like the two year deals on Jansen and Martin. I'd like to target maybe another set up guy to a two year deal. 2023 definitely showed the value of being able to protect leads in the last two innings.

Instead of signing the setup guys, just transition Whitlock and Houck into those roles permanently.

Trade Duran. To Miami for Braxton Garrett is still relatively close.

Garrett gets hit hard. Too much blue on his Statcast page. Pass.

Is Nola really a top tier pitcher?

His ERA+ over the last 3 years is 103, basically league average.

He’s also 30 years old, and therefore not likely to get better.

To me, depends on the deal. 5 years or more at anything over $20mill - hard, hard, hard pass.

But I wouldn’t mind Nola on a shorter deal. The shorter the better…

Try looking into Nola's FIP sometime. He's a really great pitcher. I don't think he leaves Philly though.

So we're assuming a guy who's not even 30, with a great offensive skillset, who's had one bad month while adjusting to a new league and country is a sunk cost for 2024? Y'all are f***ing ridiculous.

His skillset is a little lacking IMO. He's not a home run hitter and he's glacially slow.

YES!

I wouldn't mind us having 4 guys in that role:

Houck

Whitlock

Pivetta

Crawford

Set-up:

Martin

Winckowski

Schreiber

Closer:

Jansen

(No way this ever happens. We'd need to add 4 SP'ers or 3 and hope for a Sale miracle.)

I’ve been saying that for two years now, and was calling for Jansen last year too.

I've been calling for adding top of the rotation pitchers since the 70's.

LOL!

Masataka Yoshida, who turned 30 years old on July 15, has posted 0.7 fWAR in 117 games this year and is projected to post another 0.4 fWAR in 23 games before the season's end.

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/masataka-yoshida/31837/stats?position=DH/OF

Before this season ZiPS projected Yoshida with WAR of 3.7 in 2023, 3.2 in 2024 and 2.6 in 2025.

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/masataka-yoshida/31837/stats?position=DH/OF#zips-3-year-projections

Yoshida has four years and $72 million remaining on his contract.

Duvall doesn't want to play CF going forward. Abreu can and will play CF if needed to. However, that should only be to backup Rafaela.

I mean, I would have DUran be my back up CF if Rafaela is there. Duval or Abreu would be the 3rd/4th option

I really like Duvall, but I hate how we keep stacking our team with LF/DH players. Why choose to add another LF'er? (Duvall)

Add a RH'd OF'er who can play CF and or RF. (2B might be nice, too!)

Duvall won’t come as cheap, or just on a 1 year contract next time. I don’t know who is out there who would be another option, but to lose him, and JT they definitely need another power RHB. You can’t count on Story Land either.

Sign Matt Chapman, sign Yamamoto, and Nola/Snell or another starter. And a reliever. Houck and Crawford back to the pen. Then you have a chance to be a good team.

Losing his and JT's bat will be bad, but we don't need to replace them with a LF'er or DH.

Ideally, we can try to find offense and defense at CF, maybe RF, if Dugo is traded or 2B.

Or, we take a hit on O, maybe hoping Rafaela, Abreu and Story can add some O lost, but gain more by vastly improving the rotation, instead.

I hear you, though.

A quick look at FAs who play CF or RF:

Bellinger L

T Hernandez R

Conforto L

Blackman L

Renfroe R

Kiermaier L

I'm siding with notin on the solution to our lineup and defense.

Chapman 3B

Raffy 1B

Casas DH

Yoshida LF

Chapman can pick it at 3B, so that would make the infield D better, but he strikes out a ton. I just can’t see the Sox making all those drastic moves.

I Don know how good an OF Teoscar is, but I would take him over the others as a RHB.

If we add 2 SP'er, we don't need a pen singing, except for maybe a couple depth signings of guys with options remaining.
