Winckowski has been struggling in august this far. Hopefully a weak Yankees lineup can get him going.

On a side note I’ll be watching this game at the airport before flying to Houston to see Sox play Astros twice while there. It’s currently 63 degrees in Maryland. It’ll be 102 when I land tomorrow and my friends I’m visiting told me “I’m lucky it’s not worse.” I don’t think I could actually ever live in Texas off that weather alone.

Winck has had an up and down season, with his poor outings bunched up.

Wink's AUgust was going great, until his last game

Aug1-Aug 15

1.50 ERA amd .668 OPS Against

Amazing what one bad game can do...

ERA/OPSA

1.50/.517 first 24 IP (14 gmes.

3.72/.787 next 9.2 IP (5gms)

3.12/.758 next 8.2 IP (7gms)

12.46/1.601 next 4.1 IP (3gms)

1.29/.667 next 14 IP (10gms)

9.00/1.029 last 4 IP (5 gms)

A different view:

1.50/.517 first 24 IP (14 gmes.)

5.16/.973 middle 23 IP (15 gms)

1.56/.687 last 17 IP (14 gms) not counting his last game on Aug 17th)

3.00/.763 last 18 IP (15 gms) counting his last game

I'm guessing that the object of starting Wink today is to let him work for 2 innings and see if he can get a shutdown effort in place before Pivetta comes in . If Josh can avoid the walks followed by HR, he should do fine.

I guess they must like the match-ups with Wink in the first inning or two.

Pivetta looked pretty good starting, last time, and I'm not sure it matters when he gets his 5-6 IP. It doesn't seem to bother him, how they use him.

His upside doesn’t even approach Al Nipper who also stunk.

Wink certainly does not have great numbers. His ERA seems like smoke and mirrors, when you look at his OPS Against (.757) and WHIP (1.407,) but let's see how he ends up comparing to Nipper's career.

Glad they didn't drill JT after that Devers' rocket. But I do hope that some Red Sox reliever today remembers Abreu from last night...

Only if the game is out of hand in a bad way. Otherwise let sleeping dogs lie.

Surprised that Stanton's not in the Yankem line-up. I'm glad he's not because even muscular blind squirrels, well you know the rest. I did enjoy Stanton getting booed yesterday.

Arguably, Jeter didn't do the Yankems a favor.

Story seems clueless. He K's on 3 pitches, 2 of which were comfortably out of the strike zone and which he swung at and 1 inside the strike zone which he did not swing at.

So far Story has been an expensive IL and glove.

I think it's harder than it looks on TV though.

I don't care what anyone says but there's really no excuse for swinging at that pitch. Unfortunately, I think that's who he is. Plate discipline is not his strong suit.

If Devers 'hot' streak can last as long as his 'cold' streak, the SOX will be in pretty good shape.

Maybe someone can find a longer or worse "cold streak," but I found a ,,,

31 games stretch (4/21 to 5/28) at .689

and

a 26 game stretch (6/3 to 6/30) at .774.

Before today's game with his HR and single, his OPS since July 1st is 1.005.

That's a pretty long stretch, already.

This umpire is a **********. How does Pivetta not get that pitch all game and then you call out Duvall on it?

I can’t wait for these bums to be out of jobs

If I'm not mistaken, Devers went about 20 games recently with a total of 3 RBI.
