Two names being throw around for the possible return are Nick Robertson, and Justin Hagenam.

It’s a weak return as in these are both relief arms BUT two thoughts.

First, the fact we are getting anything for Kike is amazing, we are probably eating salary, so what.

Secondly. Despite not being stellar prospects both these guys have high floors as relievers and are a lot lot better than the scrubs we’ve been had riding the shuttle this year.

Getting rid of Kike is the best move that Bloom has mad in a while. Kudos to Bloom and good riddance to Kike.

And yet the Dodgers wanted him back…

I think that The Dodger approach is to get as many players as possible. They can afford mistakes when they have Betts, Freeman and JD hitting in a row.

His OPS since returning is well below .700.

I think the emergence of Duran is a bigger factor…

.834 in his last 10 games.

I’d like to see him get a chance to play everyday, but I would not bench any of these guys vs RHPs for him:

Turner

Yoshida

Dugo

Duran

Casas

Vs LHPs an argument could be made for some, but we have to let our only top 10 MLB batter v LHPs since 2022 play, too (Refsnyder.)

I can see the reasoning for trading the league leading rbi man in 2021 at the deadline.

Play Ref v LHPs and play the others, instead.

As I keep saying to mvp, the whole season counts. He could easily get hot again.

He could absolutely, assuming he is fully healed…

I think they want his glove in CF and suspect current CF Josh Outman is a mediocre defender who hasn’t hit much since April…

Sox received 25yo RHP Nick Robertson (6.10 ERA in 10 IP in LA) and 26yo Justin Haggeman (2.78 ERA and 1.077 WHIP in 55 IP in AAA).

Actually a fairly modest return…

That's a valid concern. His .910 OPS in the last 8 games is encouraging though.

Fairly modest? Does that mean moderately mediocre?

It’s not exciting, but for two months of a well-paid glove-first CF with limited offensive skills, it’s not bad.

Fangraphs had Robertson at Dodgers’ #46 before the season. Haggeman was outside the top 51, which is not surprising given his age and struggles in AAA last year…

I would not bet against Duvall, assuming he gets a chance to play, everyday.

The problem for him with the Sox is how can he play everyday?

Who sits vs RHPs?

Not Duran, Dugo, Yoshida, Casas or Turner.

Who sits vs LHPs?

Not Yoshida, Turner, Refsnyder.

Probably not Dugo.

Casas or Duran?

Even if yes to one, he still only plays the short side of a platoon.

It would do a service to him to trade him, but that doesn’t mean we do.

If they deal Verdugo, he would play every day…

As we have seen, Cora is not averse to shuffling guys around to get them in the lineup.

Yes, but this would be quite a squeeze. Sitting great LHd batters vs RHPs makes little sense.

It’s a nice problem to have, but I have always felt that if a player’s value would be higher on another team, a trade should occur.

Notin mentions Dugo. He’d bring way more than Duvall, but that would be a controversial move.

Is Haggerman Rule 5 eligible this winter?

Not only did the Sox subtract a negative, but finally added pitchers from the Dodgers. It doesn't matter that they're minor leaguers -- their Triple A numbers aren't bad, and were logged in LA's system, after all. Kudos to Bloom.

Hope just one does better than Alan Webster or Rubby de la Rosa!

The only way Dugo gets traded is if we nosedive.

We don't have a logjam.

Cora has done this a couple of times:

Casas 1B

Turner 2B

Devers 3B

Duvall LF

Duran CF

Verdugo RF

Yoshida DH

We've also seen Duvall in CF and Duran in LF.

And of course we've seen Refsnyder start against lefties instead of Duran.

The bottom line is, it's not a strict platoon, it's totally flexible.

It would have been nice to get a SP since our BP is fairly decent but still likely a good trade.

Turner at 2B will likely be pretty rare, but yes that is one way to flex all the top hitters into the lineup at once.

Maybe I’m overemphasising things, but I do think Duvall is worth more to a team that doesn’t have the choices Cora has.

I really like Duvall. I’m just seeing any drop off from Duvall to Duran, Casas or the others discussed is likely smaller than sever other teams have. I’m not for handing him away, but maybe a three team deal, where we add someone like Mata or Paulino could get us a decent rental SPer.
