Last time we started a rookie at SS the season went pretty well

Cortes’ injury was to a hammy and cost him literally no time

Sounds like Sevy’s issue is more precautionary at this point. The goal is to win in October, we can survive March and April

Rodon threw a successful BP session

Schmidt and German have been solid in their regular season and preseason time. 5th starter will be an issue, but they’re “expecting” to only need a 5th starter once before Sevy returns. My bet is they kid glove Rodon and bring him back in May assuming he doesn’t have a serious injury.

We have some depth with Vazquez and Brito MLB ready. Would have loved to have still has Wesneski, though

Calling it out as not happening. Unless all the other SS candidates in front of him get converted to SP in order to backfill the rotation…

They seem to have fooled ya.

The Yanks held true to their word. Boone and Cash said at the beginning of ST that it is a true competition. Volpe clearly outplayed the others. He deserves it. My hope is they throw him 9th in the order and let him take his lumps a bit. The kid is a sky high talent.

So the Yankees DFAd former superstar prospect Esteban Florial to make room for discarded Red Sox trash Colten Brewer??

It's better than that. They discarded Florial for discarded RS trash Franchy Cordero. Then, instead of giving one of their high upside arms a shot at the beginning of the year, they go with Brewer. Although the Brewer move is mostly placeholder status. He will get DFAd when one pitcher comes back, be it Rodon, Trivino, Kahnle or Sevy

Do they need to DFA Brewer when any of those players return? All of them are currently on the 40 man.

They would need to if Brewer has no options and the Yankees have no other injuries that necessitate keeping him…

And Boone strikes again. Schmidt's first start. Kid was doing ok, but ran up a high pitch count. HR, double, HR. You cannot leave these kids out there early on. Stupid

He's leading the Yanks off a "cliff!"

LOL

That's the thing. I don't think he has options now that he is up with the club.

So you would have hooked him when? After the double, when he'd given up 1 run?

King and Holmes, two of the Yankees' best, ended up allowing 4 of the 7 runs.

He had a guy warming in the 3rd inning. Schmidt was already over 60 pitches when he gave up the HR to Joc. Boone's issue is he has a pretty good idea of when a pitcher is cooked. He just gets greedy and tries to get "one more out". It's April. This kid is not has not been a starter for 2 years now. He got above 60 pitches and was clearly running out of gas. Forget the outcome of the game. If his goal is to keep this kid's confidence and ensure he isn't going to break down, you pull him when he starts to show signs of fatigue. Maybe next turn through the rotation the kid gets tired at 70 or 80 pitches. Whatevever. But he clearly lost something in the 3rd inning, Boone saw it enough to get the pen warm. He just didn't act on it when he came out in the 4th and had nothing

Impressed with Volpe. Did make a dumb error and is only 2 for 9. But the 2 walks drives up his OBP to .364 and he’s stolen 3 bases in 3 games. If he can be a good SS, steal a f*** ton of bases and gets on base over 35% of the time, he’ll be immensely valuable while his power game comes

Torres is having a hell of a start. Making good contact, limiting K's, walking a ton and stolen 5 bases in 6 games. Maybe this is his breakout season

Gleyber isn't especially fast. I think he's been taking advantage of the pitch clock and getting a jump when the timer reaches 0. I'm sure pitchers will adjust by starting to throw over right as the timer hits 0.

Franchy is hitting, lol

Also, stop starting Schmidt. The guy is a reliever. He’s a damn good one. He’s been tried out. It hasn’t worked. Slide him into a pen slot and leave him alone
