@jcmccaffrey

Bello is throwing on flat ground with the other pitchers under the watchful eyes of a few trainers

@jcmccaffrey

After a brief chat with Bush and the trainers, Bello is staying to do PFPs with the rest of the group and the trainers are headed to another field so that seems like a good sign

Cora says a lot of the non roster invitees will likely pitch the first few games. Says Kluber is scheduled to be the first of the major league starters to start a game which will be next Monday

Pedro Ciriaco was certainly a past recipient of the Jeff Bailey Award. Also Chris Carter…

@GlobeChadFinn

Nice to see 2012 Red Sox BABIP legend Pedro Ciriaco’s name among the team’s organizational moves today. He was hired as a Dominican Summer League instructor, presumably specializing in Hitting ‘Em Where They Ain’t.

Day 1 in Ft Myers. I like watching guys I have t seen before. Yoshida hitting bombs. He’s not a slap hitter. Rafaela has some serious thunder in his hands. Wow.

I like updates like this.

Well played by Finn.

Tomorrow's lineup vs. Northeastern, per Cora.

Duran CF

Devers 3B

Hernández SS

Yoshida LF

Verdugo RF

Alfaro DH

Casas 1B

Valdez 2B

Scott C

I'm interested to see how Scott progresses this season.

Alex Cora says Brayan Bello is doing well and the plan is for him to throw a bullpen on Sunday.

Like your slippers?

Too hot/humid to wear slippers down here. I tried that the first winter because of the tile floor, but it wasn't enjoyable. No slippers!

My feet sweat too much for regular slippers. but the open heel ones are ok (closed toe.)

Second night in a row on Report From The Fort that TC has called Whitlock the Sox' best reliever last season. 1) did he watch Schreiber or see his stats? 2) did he mean two years ago?

Schreiber beat Whitlock in every meaningful category- even IP as a RPer. Maybe he meant last 2 years combined

Lies.

Next thing you’ll be telling me you own a shirt that has sleeves…

Honestly, I only have one pair of slides and they are only for the beach or when the no-see-ums aren't absolutely going crazy.

I believe Whitlock had a better k/bb as a reliever than Schreiber.

I knew someone would find one, and that one is "meaningful."

Schreiber was 3rd on the team in that category among pitchers with 65+ IP.

(Brasier was 3rd if 60+ IP.)

Pitching change...

@IanCundall

It's early in camp, but that was an encouraging swing from Jarren Duran. He's retooled his swing with a new setup, toe-tap instead of leg kick & starting his hands in a hitting position rather than bringing them back/up during his load. Looks quicker & more direct to the ball.

We've mentioned his swing change already. We'll see if it pays dividends at all this season.
