Casas will be ready. I'm ashamed at all the Sox fans that are just ignoring about what he can bring to this team. Casas and Devers will be good.

Over/under on '23 Casas: 20 HR, 80 RBI, 80 BB, 80 K, .250 BA, .800 OPS

I'll take over on all...

Like I have said many times that Casas has plenty of promise, but nothing more than that at this point, so I don’t think anyone is ignoring him, but just waiting to see it happening.

At the very least, he should be a step up over Cordero/Dalbec defensively. And even offensive improvement isn’t a big ask…

Maybe a .240 BA and .790 OPS, but yes on all the rest.

So Bloom can be frustrating with his inactivity in replacing injured players during the off-season. When Sale went down last February, I get using Houck as starting options were limited and replacing Sale isn’t easy. But I didn’t get not backfilling Houck in the bullpen.

Now with Story down - and the Sox already down one middle infielder - still no movement?

Elvis Andrus is an easy temporary fix for losing Bogaerts. For Story, why not Jurickson Profar? He’s easily the best position player (and maybe the best player period) on the market. While he primarily played LF last year, he did play over 1,000 innings at 2b as recently as 2021. While he’s no Frank White out there, he does at least bring serious OBP to the table.

Maybe the Sox can’t or won’t sign both. But at least get one of Andrus and Profar. Or get both and we can rebuild that 2016 Rangers’ infield…

Bloom can definitely be tortoise-like.

Is that the sign of a good GM?

It's a great way to avoid spending on all the higher-priced players who are in actual demand... especially if you're hired to build the best possible team costing the least amount of resources.

There’s an old Star Trek episode (the original series) where at a diplomatic conference, Spock’s father (an ambassador) says to one cantankerous delegate “Tellarites do not argue for reasons, they just argue.”

Sort of reminds me of much of this thread.

sounds like Democrats.

This is actually not opinion: a month before Spring Training 2023, the Red Sox' infield is half-empty.

And it is also true that 4 of our our 5 starting pitchers are extreme injury risks and the other guy is a #4/5.

You would still have to get guys like Jose Iglesias at the MLB minimum rather than Niko Goodrum or whatever. I can see not wanting to go for a 3 year Elvis contract unless it's like 5M AAV. His previous contract was 15M AAV (not counting the 1 year deal he signed with the ChiSox while still under the 8 year TEX deal). Maybe he's holding out for more money as well? He's a bottom of the order bat. -26 DRS the past 4 seasons at SS.

In the fairy tales, the tortoise wins. In real life?

In real life, tortoises live to be about 140 years old, which is very a win of sorts…

We got him because he had TJ surgery.

So, that automatically makes him "an extreme injury risk?"

True, he has also had hip surgery, but I still don't view him as an extreme injury risk- just a plain old risk.

C’mon man. He’s a substantial risk.

I'm not going to argue semantics. "Extreme" seemed a bit to much.

I fine with "substantial."

Most Sox fans seemed thrilled we signed this "extreme risk."

How many surgeries does it take to classify a player as injury prone?

He certainly has some risk.

TJ surgeries typically last for about 600 IP before a second surgery is required. Whitlock has only 150 IP since his surgery, so his risk might not be too high…
