A blockbuster!

I’m officially loosing my faith on Bloom. Seems like it’s going to be a long season again.

Dugo. Even with his crappy defense he is miles ahead a better player than JBJ. He can actually hit the ball. Christ, JBJ has been negative value since Milwaukee. That's pretty bad considering he's a beast on defense.

That would be my preferred RFer if he can pick it out there like he did in 2021. But if he can’t and Yoshida can’t field….a RF/CF who can platoon with Rfy makes sense.

JBJ sucks. He isn't worth the major league minimum. He can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag. Its laughable to even suggest signing him.

Weak offense but Bradley did show last year he remains among the best defensive outfielders in MLB…

Gallo to Minnesota. Sad.

Jacob Wallace to KC. Even dealing my sleeper prospects.

Wyatt Mills just didn’t thrill me. Maybe he will, but not hopeful.

DFAing Hosmer hopefully means the Sox plan to get a real DH…

He's a negative value period. Even his defense isn't enough to keep him on a roster anymore. And he's getting older now so the defense will start to fade so he will be even worse value

Gallo to Minnesota for one year.

Moving down the Notin preference checklist, Brian Anderson is up next!

Although realistically the Sox are probably looking for a DH and plan on a Yoshida-Hernandez-Verdugo OF…

Wyatt Mills was such an exciting acquisition that the MLBTR article about his trade was headlined about the player who was DFAd to accommodate him.

Going by the last few years' splits, a Dugo Ref platoon would net an .800 plus OPS. It's the D that worries me, but remember, last year Dugo almost passed JBJ in RF innings, anyway and if you add Cordero's to Dugo, they had more:

526 JBJ

432 Dugo

163 Ref

124 Cordero

108 Arroyo

46 Duran

24 Davis

8 Almonte

That's 742 innings by sub average defenders, or more than half.

689 by JBJ + Refsnyder

Gallo got $11M/1. Seems like the Sox kind of deal.

I'd rather see the Sox use Yoshida and Dugo at DH and LF and find a real RF'er. Refsnyder is not bad in RF, but he'd be used best as a platoon, there.

I'm still thinking we might trade Dugo and fine a RF'er.

I’m not as down on Dugo in RF as many. He certainly has shown he has the arm strength, but his accuracy can suffer.

I’m thinking get used to Yoshida-Kike-Verdugo starting and an upgrade over Hosmer at DH…

Yeah, Sox could do better than JBJ. Someone will sign him, but at this point he’s a defensive 4th outfielder. Bench bat. I think he’s bat can recover at least against RHP enough to justify a bench role. I think Boston needs someone who can start or at least platoon with some consistency at the plate. JBJ could t even hit RHP last year

The Red Sox must see something in Darwinzon, Ort and Brasier to have cut Park, Downs and Hosmer instead.

I mean, aside Hosmer who has healthy concerns, everything is a bag of trash.

They’re pitchers. The Sox are holding on to pitching depth…

You do not mince words, my friend. :)

Those 3 are no better than pitchers placed on waiver all the time.

We did replace Hosmer with a pitcher, so there is that.

You know, we could replace Brasier with a better pitcher.

Yeah, they’re hoarding depth, as everyone does to varying lengths. Teams all over baseball have guys like Darwinzon, they either figure it out or they don’t. Sometimes teams give up on them and the Red Sox turn them into Andrew Miller. Talent…that’s why they get rope

No doubt DHern has nasty stuff, but he's already been given enough rope to circle every boxing ring in the world.

He's played in parts of 4 major league seasons dating back to 2019. While I'm the last guy on this site to say an 85 IP sample size is large enough for any definitive judgement, the 7.7 BB/9 is not out of line with his numbers on the farm. His BB/9 in AAA 7.8, it's 7.4 in AA.

Okay, he turns 26, tomorrow, and still has a chance to improve, but I have no more hope for him than just about any pitcher being DFA'd.

Ort turns 31, soon. His rope is all knotted up.

Brasier, well, is the man with 99 lives. His rope is like a magicians rope being pulled from a hat.

Just because someone has rope doesn’t mean they’re not at the end of it. At some point the Sox will move on from Dhen. Could easily be during the next few weeks

If Bloom was right about adding 8-9 players to the roster, the numbers line up for 2-3 of these guys to be toast.

Jansen

Martin

Joely

Yoshida

Mills

That's 5.

Brasier is like the rope around a boxing ring. There is no end to it.

Beni gets $15M x 5. Great for him!

I'd say that's a pretty big overpay, but what does "overpay" even mean, anymore?

I thought it was an overpay at first too, but in order for a free agent to "earn" $15 mill a year they really only have to be an average 2 WAR player, as crazy as it seems.

Interestingly, a lot of Yankee fans really liked him and wanted him back.

Maybe because they remember him pre-2020 or 2019.

The kid showed a lot of promise after that 4.9 fWAR season of 2018.

He was 23 years old and not yet close to "prime."

Throw out the 2020 season and he's been at:

1.8

1.7

2.8

If he can stay near 2.8, that $15M per looks pretty good, in today's market, and yes, even 2,0 or 1.75 would not be a terrible signing compared to the going rates.

LF in Yankee Stadium would dissuade me from wanting him there, if I were the Yankee GM.

Market prices.

Benintendi, 28, is a starting outfielder in his prime who has been an All-Star, hit .300 and won a Gold Glove in the big leagues.

He just signed for less than a guy from Japan who has yet to play a game in the majors.

Sounds like the Sox made the right choice.

And Masataka Yoshida is one year older than Andrew Benintendi.
