The pessimism is beyond justified. I do hope the Cookie Puss Meeting yielded positive headway, but the only way to salvage this situation is a conclusion…

The worst option is to do nothing and just go into the season with him at 3b without an extension.

I’m kind of glad the Mets are spending like this. All of these MLB owners are filthy rich and can afford to spend on talent, and they make a profit every season. Some of them just choose not too, and use the small market argument while putting together sack of s*** team every season, like the Pirates.

It's embarrassing some of the rosters these teams have trotted out. It wasn't that long ago that the Pirates were in the playoffs and had a lot of buzz in Pittsburgh. The owners just torched it.

I work with a few Pirates fans and they’re so done with the franchise. No one involved with management or ownership of that team cares, and every star they get is traded within a few years, and the cycle repeats.

Similarly, the 2022 Orioles get close enough to sniff a playoff birth and the owners just deal off one of their best relievers and then don't do anything the next offseason. Two historical ballclubs with beautiful ballparks that just have treated their fanbases like garbage.

I'm not sure if BTV has updated it's numbers, recently, but here is who they have as the worst signings, so far in 2022:

What do you mean the O’s didn’t do anything. They picked up one of Bloom’s prized trade pieces Franchy Strangeglove.

Swanson is still out there. The only competition seems to be the Cubs and the Twins. He may not be on the same level as the ones who got away , but he could probably ease some of the bad feelings.

A Devers extension and a Swanson and one from Kluber, Conforto or gallo addition would do it for me, but I have to think mayer is the plan. Andrus is our best hope for anything at SS, short term.

No, it'd make it worse because it's going to be a BIG contract.

@ChrisCotillo

Chaim Bloom wants the Red Sox to get back to signing young players to pre-arbitration extensions. Don't be surprised if they try to talk about deals with Brayan Bello, Triston Casas and others this spring.

What if Chaim is using the excess payroll towards extensions?

This would be a good step…

For every Salvy Perez there’s 10 Jon Singletons. Signing prearb players to long term deals is a fools errand for a large market club. Let me show you why.

A small market club can get away with signing pre-arb players to deals. If the player doesn’t pan out, the organization can cry poor and suck and most people don’t care. They don’t have a fan base anyway. If they hit, then they can extend their extremely short window and go for it for a year or two. It’s the way a bad organization can get good

For the big money clubs, the expectation is you compete every year. So if you sign a Triston Casas to a long term extension and he sucks, then he’s a drag on the balance sheet while you still try to compete. He may hinder you for years to come as you need to feed your fan base a winning product.

And if you wait til they got good in their prearb years, then the price rises so dramatically and the length gets so long that it’s probably better off to go year to year and reevaluate your needs that way

10 to 1, really?

You're slipping, jacko.

If Atlanta wanted Park, it only proves Bloom’s brilliance!

Not!

Hey Pittsburgh gave up Clay Holmes to get him…

Posted
JbJ is still available so maybe Bloom will give him another shot

I actually wouldn’t mind a Refsnyder/JBJ platoon in right. Pay him to be a 1 year bench bat. 6 million.

Who is your starting right fielder?

Dugo. Even with his crappy defense he is miles ahead a better player than JBJ. He can actually hit the ball. Christ, JBJ has been negative value since Milwaukee. That's pretty bad considering he's a beast on defense.
