Which it is what it should be when the team is 5 games under 500. Last in the division, and 9 games back in the L column for the last Wildcard spot.

Sure thing, I certainly didn’t expect euphoric joy and love.

I’ve seen it a lot worse, and usually gloom, and doom starts at the first sign of trouble.

Like first pitch if the game, ball one “ohhhhh here we go”

Kennedy gave Cora and Bloom a vote of confidence today. Very disappointing. Neither deserves it.

Anytime you hear an owner say this it essentially means you're on thin ice so don't f*** up too much longer or you're gone

I wouldn’t say I’m an excessively optimistic person

Me either. But I seem to come off that way here. It's all relative.

That' a fair point, there are some in here who probably make me look like the biggest pollyanna on earth.

A #2? Maybe the kind of #2 in the bathroom. He is never going to be a #2 on a .500 team.

You don't think Bello has the stuff to be a good pitcher? Is this because of his stuff? fastball/change up/ slider? Or because you're frustrated he's not Roger Clemens after his first 5 MLB starts as a 22 year old?

The moment that Urschela's bat touched Schreiber's slider in the 5th , this game was over. No hope once they were 2 down.

It looked like a very nice pitch.

I always thought being somewhat optimistic was part of being a good fan.

I also don't think the pre-2022 optimsm was unwarranted. It took a hell of a lot of things turning sour, apart from the Bloom blunders, to add up to this mess.

Sale injury

Eovaldi decline & injury

Wacha injury

Hill injury

Whitlock injury

Houck injury & vax status

Schreiber injury

Taylor injury

Strahm injury

Barnes injury

Story injury

JD & Bogey power & RBI declines

Kike injury

Devers injury

Arroyo's injury

Refsnyder injury

Dalbec's epic decline

Verdugo decline (coming back up, too late)

Plawecki's 200 point OPS decline

(Almost every returning vet, except Devers, Vaz and Houck declined from '21)

Of course, injuries and declines have to be expected but not on this scale. The need to throw blame at the manager and GM through all these misfortunes seems misguided, to me. I realize it's hard to have a positive attitude watching these games, and it does suck, badly, but there is no reason to think these misfortunes will continue, next year. There is plenty to be optimistic about going forward. The farm is much improved, and some players are now ML ready. We lose a lot of dead money off the budget, this year, and while some key players need to be extended or replaced in kind, the amount of budget space seems like enough to improve on this team, this winter.

It was a good pitch in the situation, if Urshela only chased it and missed. Otherwise blind jerry Meals would have called it Ball 4 and walked in a run. Granted that walk , the 4th of the inning would have only tied the score.

My comment was actually directed at the Boston hitters who once again showed little ability to score in response and challenge for the lead and the win. They did not score vs a decent BP effort in the 6th/7th/8th and 9th.

I was responding to another poster.

I think it's fair to say that when a pitcher gets a batter to swing at a ball outside the strike zone, it was a good pitch.

What I have seen thus far doesn’t impress me greatly. His command is a long way from being a #2. Maybe that can be refined, but he isn’t close to that yet.

Bello had some pretty incredible numbers in AA/AAA, this year, despite the 36 BBs in 96 IP (3.4 BB/9.)

129 Ks (12.1/9)

.559 OPS Against

2.52 G/F was by far, the best starter in the system (Walter was 2nd at 2.23)

He may end up not impressing, but he's the best looking pitching prospect we've had in a long time. (Mata might be second best.)

They have lost 3 in a row and 9 of their last 12. They are in last place, and September hasn’t started yet. At some point, Cora could enter Joe Kerrigan territory if they keep losing like this.
