Nothing better than OJT when you are trying to recover to .500 , with a short term lock on 5th place in AL East.

Maybe they are trying to go the other way?

Unbelievable run for this team going 1-5 in the first 6 of 11 to the trade deadline. Who says you have to wait until 5:559 EDT on 8/2 to make a move ? No one. I understand some GMs don't want to appear either panicky or to not get the best deal, but if you truly need help, why wait. I don't put the Sox in that category because they could not add enough skilled players to make a serious difference. Their best chance is for the IL players to actually return and contribute .

Easy to think that when you see the way the roster gets used, including BP assignments. But , I don't think losing at this stage makes anything better . Flopping may help in the NBA and soccer but not so much here.

I will say, just to stir the natives, that if we had a closer we would easily be 10-15 games better this year. A 9th inning HR off Houck really left a bad taste.

Unless they really tank, forget about a top five draft pick. Don't forget how much better last place in the AL East is, compared with all other sub-.500 teams; right now, the Sox are still better than about half the MLB teams. But there's always hope...

The one benefit to flopping is you get more MLB draft $$$. The ranking of the picks doesn't really matter, but you do have more money to spend overall.

They are just horribly mediocre. Without Devers and a few deadline trades, it could get really ugly.

Could??!!

I'd say having the 6th highest payroll while being in last place, under .500, 17 games out of 1st a week after the All Star game is really ugly....

If last night wasn’t real ugly how much more worse do you need it to get to call it so? Sounds like a politician saying that watching the Red Sox follies this past month isn’t really happening, or is all that bad. A real Clown Show at best, and no Bobby V to blame. JH, Bloom, and Cora are doing a great impression of Larry, Curly, and Moe for the roster they have created, and then how they are playing that roster. Franchy at 1B anyone?

Luckily Sox fans have WS Championships from 04, 07, 13 and 18 to tide us over.

Here's a little highlight reel......

Mediocre? Really?

I think they are 4-15 in their last 19 games.

That’s even a step lower than horrible.

The Guardians' McKenzie has been averaging 6 innings per his 18 starts this season. He's also one of the relatively few African-Americans currently playing MLB.
He also has a 0.98WHIP, which is excellent.

Shouldn't JD be driving in some runs?

Ha! But then, the RS might win some games. And then they might not be able to get rid of their best players. And then JH might only make 10s of millions instead of 100s of millions each year.

Franchy can’t be there for his bat, so it must be his glove.

It was humorous to hear Tom Caron and Ellis Burke's laud Cora in the pregame discussion for running Franchy right back out there tonight after 3 errors and essentially costing the game last night. It could have hurt Franchy's confidence to have to sit on the bench tonight.

News for TC and EB--- You will not see Franchy on that roster next year, so I don't really care about his development into a confident young ballplayer. If he was still in Worcester, that support would maybe make some sense.
