My roommate was mad as soon as he saw Vaz going home. I know hindsight is 20/20 but literally mid play he was yelling “XANDER IS ON DECK, HOLD HIM”

Question from a friend. Did Franchy need to do anything more than to touch first base for the win to be secured ? Why run the bases, except as a stat pad?

Also, props to Franchy for going out there with an interpreter and then not using him.

Kind of like his glove, LOL

The Mariners are cursed.

Impressive sweep for the Red Sox.

Sorry harmony. Not sorry we swept, but you're a good baseball fan and deserve some reward for it.

Franchy only hit one HR last season, but it was the longest on the ballclub.

Never been the biggest Franchy fan, and didn’t like the trade, but he has looked pretty good at the plate this season. The numbers don’t show it yet, but his strikeout rate is down, he isn’t swinging at a bunch of s***** pitches like he usually does and has been hitting the ball hard

Yeah, it's a rather arbitrary rule, but if the ball stays in the park, they only count one run, but if it leaves the park it's like any other home run.

Yup, not only did Franchy win the game, he also added to the SOX runs per game average.

Good points.

He's got his OPS over .700, now, which is more than quite a few regulars can say.

The thing is, if it was a ball hit over the wall, why would the defenders try to hustle and risk injury to prevent extra runs?

It kinda has to be that way.

Big win with no JD in the line-up and Big Nate coming off a shaky start. He was a K machine, today.

The pen struggles, but a nice team win.

I was sitting down the RF line about even with the pole and I thought that was a can of corn. Boy did that thing carry. Did not have that special sound to it off the bat

A good win, but it shouldn’t have been that difficult. If the Sox only had a closer.

We've lost our share of games like this, so it still feels good.

I saw one in Portland a couple of years back: Dogs down 3 in the bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, 2 outs. Curve ball--batter misses by a good foot. 0-1. Another curve, again a swing, not even in the right time zone. The pitcher then made the mistake of throwing another one. Over the wall for the win. Even a AA player can learn to hit the curve, given enough chances!

Baseball history story

In the game in which Harvey Haddix pitched 12 perfect innings, the game ended with a similar play.

In the 13th, runner on second (reached on error) and Hank Aaron on first (IBB), Braves outfielder Joe Adcock homered to right. Hank Aaron saw the run score and touched second base and then walked off the field. Adcock continued to circle the bases, but was ruled out after passing second base for passing Aaron.

But the run scored and Haddix lost. And Adcock was credited with a double, “robbed” of a home run by Aaron…
