It doesn't matter why. He has no experience punto.

And what is so special about it, besides adding extra 0’s to the dollar amount?

Do people think the Sox should have gotten back another future Hall of Famer for Betts?

We’ve gone through this a 100 times. Not a HOF talent, but better than what they got.

I think no matter what they got, people would say it’s not enough…

Because fans have been looking for reasons to not like Bloom since he was hired?

Bingo! I’ll speak for myself that I don’t like his way of doing things, and for me from the beginning I have said that. I don’t want any 5 year plan that might not pan out. Like others have said on here it’s hard to understand the trust, and loyalty that some have for Bloom on here, because the results don’t warrant that. If you no what you are doing these results shouldn’t happen. Boston is not Tampa, and vice versa.

You, and some are happy with D grades, and just plain losers on the trade, but many are not. Some have bragged that a D is not failing. Wow!

... starting in the offseason, when all of us here waste too much time speculating and wishing and hoping for significant roster changes and upgrades that won't happen... and instead, will yawn at a new group of retreads added to the rotation and bullpen that will inevitably get hurt, and hurt the club's standing as a result.

so true

If one takes a look back at Blooms career, he has no track record of pursuing HOF talent . His forte is improving at the margins. The analogy of the gambler who plays at the $5 blackjack table expecting to become Elon Musk is an apt one.

JH spends in cycles. The spending cycle is due, this winter.

BTW, I'm totally relaxed. I'm not the one blowing gaskets, because we don't win, every year. I'm fine with a some sacrifice in the now, in order to reach the glory in the later.

Apparently, much of the fanbase, and society in general are all about the NOW!

we're not going to win every year but being competitive and exciting would be better than young little league embarrassing baseball and have the boss laugh at his inept players, try teaching and motivating

There are certainly valid reasons for letting Bloom go . It will be up to Henry. My guess is that he will give Bloom more time to show better results. Maybe even another year or two. Henry has been pretty much staying out of sight. I don't know if he has the same passion for the team that he once had.

Of course that's the goal.

Until the farm is built up to the point where infusions of top talent becomes a regular thing, consistent winning will not happen, unless JH decides to spend more and more, when needed.

IMO, it's tha antsy fans that are driving the slowdown of the rebuild, because they want to see us win every year, or at least give the perception we are trying to win.

This season has been a cluster, so of course, the fanbase, understandably, erupts and demands changes, firings and scape goats to be lined up and executed. Not having a firesale of expiring contracts was done to placate the win-now fans, and it back-fired spectacularly, and now we suck for the rest of this year while lessening out future outlook, at the same time by having to keep Nate & JD.

Just look at the reaction to dealing away 2 months of Vaz, and the situation is exposed to anyone who can look beyond their own selfish desires and instant gratification needs.

Sorry to sound harsh, and I don't mean to count you as one that is partially to blame for the "halfway plan" Bloom chose, but to me, this is how I see it.

The Dodgers definitely wanted Betts . Perhaps Bloom could have negotiated for a better deal. Maybe the Dodgers picking up all of Price's salary? People sometimes forget that Mookie is a very special talent. The return the Sox got from the deal was rather mediocre.. And I still have to question whether they made a full effort to resign Mookie.

You keep saying the farm is the most important thing, and you can’t win until they do, and that’s where the average Joe fan differ, and don’t care. You were one of those fans who kept saying one game at a time, and giving daily wildcard standings updates during the fantasy moth of June, and then when they came back to reality you flipped flop, and said you knew it all along. Selfish desires yes that’s what’s Red Sox Nation is all about, or just maybe it could be someone looking in the mirror.

They didn't make a full effort to resign Mookie, there's not much question about that.

I personally believe Mookie wanted to go to the west coast and money would not keep him here. The Dodgers have an open check book and get pretty much what they want, watching baseball a long time and I don't think Dugie is as bad as some people make out he just needs some help. we need bottom order help and like everybody, pitching pitching pitching

It wasn’t just Dugie coming back in the trade, and what they got back, which may have looked better when it happened looks worse every day.

And you feel this way after discussing it with him over tea and crumpets?

I have thought all along that even though they offered Mookie $300M they had a pretty good idea he wouldn’t take it, and wasn’t going any higher, so call it what you want.

Obviously , we are not in on any of the negotiations. We can only guess. But Mookie is quoted as saying that he would have stayed in Boston if the Sox matched the Dodgers' offer. You can believe that or not believe it.

I heard the podcast he did with Rob Bradford when he said that. Like I said earlier I believe the $300M offer was done knowing he wouldn’t take it, and then they can say they tried, which they did.

The Great Oz has spoken. Imagine saying fans have selfish desires, and instant gratification needs, and antsy fans are driving the slowdown of the rebuild. All I can say is pull his curtain back, and expose. S A L U T E!

"Selfish desires" I guess it is a mortal sin to want your team to win according to high priest Moon.

Like I’ve heard many times on here. Consider the source.

I would contend that Mookie would be a fool to say otherwise. What benefit would accrue to Mookie for opening up that hornet's nest?

I neither know nor care if Mookie is entirely truthful on this point.

I know how I myself would not have been all that comfortable with the Sox organization pushing "JD as team leader" narrative via their PR arm as they surely were after Ortiz left. It should have been Mookie's team and I for one have more interest in the Sox organization's answer to that question than the question of whether Mookie is truthful on this point. Tell us Red Sox, why were you pushing the JD as team leader narrative when it was obvious that Mookie should be the team leader?

IMO, partially, yes. The owners can ignore them, at their own peril, and it's certainly on them, too, but yes, selfish impatient fans hurt this team's long term future by expecting a miracle and then pouting and crying and bitching when they did not get it.
