There are simply no words for how insane it would be to give a $400 million contract to a man who will turn 31 in April, 2023.

That 27.1 Barrel Rate though... His percentile rankings on Statcast are absurd.

It may be insane but it will happen, Soto turned down $440 million from the Nationals, teams with low payrolls like the Orioles could easily swing it

Why couldn't the Sox match a 7/200 offer?

Same with the Yankees. They have a history of printing money. It's a matter of wanting to keep the player for the money, not being able to.

Maybe the other teams would be dumb to sign them for that much? IDK.

They could easily but will they that’s the question

Soto is 6.5 years younger than Judge. That's where all the difference is.

Yes, he's having an incredible season. But he'll be 31 next year and he has an injury history.

That’s true but a team with a lot of payroll space might look at a 8 year $400 million contract 50 big ones a year

Baltimore is still 24th in attendance even with the good season they are having. I don't know what a contract like that would do to their team long term. Chris Davis was an anchor for them for a decade. They'd probably be too shy to go that route again.

Also, that ownership is very cheap and I can't see them wanting to spend the money to move the fences in LF back in for Judge.

I know! I know!

It's why I'm not a GM. It'd be hard to not just go crazy on a contract for him.

Judge ain’t getting 400, but he will eclipse 300. Depending on the years he could get anywhere from 35 to 50 per. It will be huge.

Do you think the Yankees will make an high enough offer to keep him from free agency or let him go

I think he could reach that fence, the birds have a weird situation with control of the team right now, they also have the lowest payroll and number 1 farm system

I think with the current litigation and a potential sale in the future, it'd be better for that team to NOT sign a large contract like that. Also better for a guy like Judge to NOT sign with a team in turmoil like that.

FWIW over the past 10 months the Seattle Mariners have handed out three nine-figure contracts (and likely have approached Cal Raleigh, Logan Gilbert and George Kirby about early-career extensions).

8-10-18

8 games under 500

10th place in the AL as a whole

18th place in all of MLB

Not something to be proud of, but a 9-1 finish will get them to 500.

This has what $200M+ has gotten you.

If the Sox have any hope of escaping the basement, they need to sweep this series with the Orioles. Even then, it would be tough. Looks like a last place finish. Sad.

Very sad, and a nice step forward by the O's.

8-7 v BOS

8-8 v TOR

9-10 v TBR

5-11 v NYY

4-3 v HOU

3-3 v CLE

3-4 v MN

2-4 v SEA

2-1 v STL

1-2 v MIL

Not bad vs top competition.

With all that crap going on your probably right, if not for that a pick up of Judge would carry this team to the top of the AL east

Alone, no.

(He's not coming to Boston.)

Alone, o.

Need a little more help, but they have the payroll to get just about anyone they want, but they do have internal problems that make just about everything impossible

Pretty obvious that he won’t end up in Boston, so what do you think do the Yankees keep him or lose him

Yes, they "have enough" to get anyone, but spending that big on one guy, likely ,means we let a couple other slots go unfilled or filled with scrub additions.

Every team has its limits- both in terms of overall budget and in terms of what is the highest they think someone is worth. They will overpay when absolutely necessary, and Judge kind of fits that bill for the Yanks.

Maybe the Mets just go with a nutty offer to get the publicity and fans all riled up. Should the Yanks match a nutty offer?

I doubt they will, but I guess it depends on how nutty.

Gotta think the Dodgers might make an offer.

I know he has said he wants the highest AAV ever, but I think it will come down to biggest dollar amount and the years added will tip the balance.

I agree except I think you have to include teams like the Brewers, Twins, Nationals, Mariners and Rangers all have plenty luxury tax space, in any case it will be interesting to watch if he reaches free agency

It's a tough question. They offered him 7 years/213.5 million, and made the offer public. That suggests they're not ready to go to the wall for him.

They probably thought that if he turned it down they would just re-negotiate at end of season before he entered free agency, they never dreamed he would have a year like this.

I’m thinking No Way on Judge but Correa might happen…
