Sluggish bats are because of the Yankees bullpen. The Sox hit both Yankees starters, but haven't done too well against the Yankees bullpen--0 earned runs in 12.1 innings so far.

They got one earned run off Holmes yesterday although it was more s*** luck than anything else for Holmes

And my point remains. If the bullpen pitchers are on their game, they have a big advantage only facing hitters one time.

And that, ladies and gents, is who you take the first two games of a series. Use the heck out of your bullpen.

Come on man the Sox hitters have been awful period. So now if they shut us down it’s because of the Yankees pen.

Chaim is not a great GM like we hoped for .Theo was ten times the GM. Cheap bullpen gets cheap results .

Actually, the Sox bullpen so far has given up 1 earned run in 7.1 innings.

Another tough loss.

I'm glad we have 160 games left.

I think Cora was outmanaged. The guy who used his bullpen more won both games. Both Sox starters gave up two dingers each.

Really the big problem with the starters has been the long ball

10.2 IP 4BB 11K. Only 9 hits but 4 HRs.

One more time. The Sox smacked the Yankees starters for 2 dingers and 5 earned runs in 7 innings and and scored 1 earned run in 13 innings off their bullpen. Boone simply took advantage of a Yankee strength, and it worked like gangbusters.

The Yankees scored 7 earned runs off the Red Sox starters in 10.1 innings and 1 earned run of the Sox bullpen in 7.1 innings. Cora stayed with his starters, and it cost him/us, although it's hard to blame him for not relying on his bullpen more.

I think the Yankees and Sox have similar hitting--both are good. Both teams hit each others starters, but not their bullpens, and the Yankees won both games because, basically, Boone trusted his starters less than Cora trusted his.

I don't think Cora's usage of Eovaldi was at issue. Why he decided to let Pivetta go into the 6th and third time through makes little sense

You're probably right although in Cora's defense his bullpen doesn't throw/pitch like Boone's.

Pivetta’s pitch count was very low and the bullpen was used a lot the day before. I can see why he did it…

It's hard to say Cora got outmanaged when you compare the two bullpens. Isn't it easier to just say Bloom got out-GMed?

The Red Sox have now lost 8 regular season games in a row to the Yanks. Fortunately we had a playoff win wedged in there LOL

The Red have lost 5 games in a row going back to last year's ALCS.

Boone has been lucky. Going to Sevy for one hitter yesterday was stupid. Allowing Gallo to face the lefty in the 10th on Friday was stupid when you needed contact and he’s the worst contact hitter in baseball. I didn’t like going to Castro with 2 guys on in the opener when Castro is not a control guy and it puts him in a spot where he has to throw strikes. To this point, Boone’s moves have worked but it doesn’t mean he’s doing a great job.

Hard to take anything from an opening series seeing as you got swept at home by one of the worst teams of all time in your opening series last year and made it to within 2 wins from a WS.

..and outspent on the pen.

For the first start of a season with a very short ST'ing, I would think some context is needed with your "very low" statement.

Pivetta’s pitch count was fine. Stanton, Judge, and Rizzo are going to hit their HR no matter what the pitch count is.

If the Sox had money for Story they had money for better pitching, which they refused not to do, and went bargain basement instead.

Now that is spoken by a seasoned baseball fan!

That's the truth.

I think the Sox have realized spending on pitching is extremely risky. The Sox current ace was the last time they really spent on a pitcher and he is on the shelf again and in the last 3 seasons has only pitched 190 IP total (and currently not counting).

While people make a big deal of the collapse of Barnes after he received his contract, which is up for debate, there’s really no pitcher on the Sox who has been failing to live up to his deal more than Sale…

There wasn't a whole lot of risk in trading for Manaea, though.

I’m not asking for any big FA contract, but just something out of the bargain basement would be nice, or a trade for someone young like Pivetta was in a trade.
