^^ This.

Please, someone offer me $300M. Heck, I'm not greedy. I'll take $20M. LOL

Honestly, right now I’d take $3,000…

Of course. Crazy is fun, until the contract goes sour, which many of our big-dollar ones have done rather quickly. Then nobody seems to see the fun in it.

Bingo. How many people were all in with the David Price contract, only to turn around and complain about him for most of his contract.

We keep assuming that players like Devers will produce big in the first half of the contract, and that the contract won't be a burden until the latter years. It's quite possible that a player might stop producing at such a high level very early in the contract. Imagine having 10-12 years of that kind of dead money.

I think this team would be better if Mookie was in RF and Story was elsewhere.

A one on one comparison like that is not fair.

While it isn’t likely, I suppose it’s possible Devers (or any star) could go all Cody Bellinger, who right now is making a solid argument for NOT locking up young stars…

If the reports are true, it was a hard slap to his face.

Maybe even hard enough for him to more readily waive his no trade contract at the deadline.

(Could that have been the motivation?)

If the reports are true, then it is apparent that the Sox have no intention of keeping Bogaerts, IMO.

I don't think that's going to be the case with Devers, but you never know. Maybe he injures his wrist and is never quite the same hitter after that. There is a lot of risk involved with that type of contract.

They may not. And it might be the right decision.

I think if/when Bogaerts does leave, there will be a point in his next contract when Sox fans actually think “ok glad he’s not here anymore.”

But that point absolutely won’t be in 2023. Probably not until like 2027 or 2028, when Bogaerts starts slipping and Marcelo Mayer is rising to the top…

It depends on what kind of deal Bogaerts is looking for. If he's looking for 6 or 7 years at $30M per, then it's the right decision to let him walk. As is the case with Mookie, most of us will quickly be over the fact that he left. As Bell said, as long as the team keeps winning.

If Bogaerts is willing to settle for 6 or 7 years, I’d argue for keeping him. But given the deals his counterparts like Lindor and Seager received, I imagine he’s aiming higher.

I don’t think he will get a 10 year deal like Lindor or Seager, but a 7 year deal like Semien does seem reasonable to me.

But then what I think is reasonable and what Bogaerts/Boras thinks is reasonable might not be all that compatible …

The deals those guys got make Story's deal look pretty darn good. It's almost like Bloom is being smart or something.

I do think the Semien deal would be better if Semien was allowed to play shortstop…

I tend to be on the lower end of what most people consider reasonable when it comes to contracts.

Sure, but the thing is, he got 7 years compared to Story's 6, and Story is 2 years younger.

But Semien’s career isn’t built on playing home games in Coors, too.

I admit, I’m not big on Story. The only thing I like right now is that he does prove the Sox are not Tampa Bay North…

The Coors effect typically disappears once a player moves away from that ballpark.

Exactly. And in a handful of games, the jury on Story is still out…

GM IP-(ER) Pitcher

01 5.0-(3) Eovoldi

02 5.2-(4) Pivetta

03 3.1-(3) Houck

04 4.1-(1) Wacha

05 4.1-(3) Hill

06 5.0-(2) Eovaldi

In 2021, Eovaldi started 32 games, 7 times pitching into 6 innings (and less than 7) and 7 times pitching into 7 innings. Longest stint was two 7.2 inning starts. He pitched at least 5 innings in 28 of his 32 starts. He really had a good and healthy year. Some may say a Porcello like.

In 2021, Pivetta started 30 games, 10 times pitching into 6 times (and less than 7) and 1 time pitching into 7 innings. Longest stint

was one 7.0 inning start. He pitched at least 5 innings in 20 of his 30 starts.

Moon, was quality start considered to be 6 innings and 3 runs or less?

Not sure why there's no talk of Eovaldi extension. Afraid that the day after he'll have another Tommy John surgery? Or turn into Matt Barnes?

That's how it's presently defined.

They may have to revise it to 5 innings and 2 runs.

I'd offer Eovaldi 3 @ $20, but he would laugh at it.

Gausman got 5 @ $22.

Gausman is a good comp. I'd probably pay Gausman more than Eovaldi.

Yes, but to me 5 IP and 2 ERs or 8IP is as good or better.
