Suzuki bats right handed. Has a good eye at the plate and plays good defense.

Except for cash, not a lot of downside in signing him.

He's a bit of a gamble, but I like his outlook.

I just hope it doesn't push Kike to 2B FT.

I think it is safe to say that hernandez should only see 2nd base in an emergency.

With Suzuki, it will happen more often, for sure, and it's not like Kike is bad at 2B, but to me, he's such a big plus on D in CF, we should go out of our way to play him there as much as possible.

I’d say the Bradley in CF/Hernandez at 2b is a better defensive alignment than Hernandez in CF/Arroyo at 2b option…

I would not disagree, but take it one more step. Who plays LF/RF?

Which is a better D?

2B Kike, CF JBJ and Duran LF/Verdugo RF

or

2B Arroyo, CF Kike and Verdugo LF/JBJ RF?

Plus, it's not like Arroyo is a bad defender, when healthy.

It's the dumbest discussion title...misleading....wtf...

Nah, it was just a joke by mvp, in response to Jax's premature thread titled 'Sox to sign Suzuki'.

If we sign Suzuki, the outfield situation becomes very clear.

Verdugo in left, Hernandez in center and Suzuki in right. Bradley in the 4th outfielder/late game defensive replacement.

Hernandez only sees 2nd base in an emergency.

Reportedly the Sox acquired Bradley to strengthen defense. He won’t do that on the bench…

Have you seen Bradley swing a bat? It’s uglier than a yankees’s fan taking the Mensa test!

Late inning defensive replacement and occasional relief of the starters is a perfect role for Bradley. Pitchers will be happy and Cora can look like a genius for putting Bradley in there late.

If the Sox do sign Suzuki (which is far from a guarantee), it does very likely move Kike to 2b, at least vs RHP.

If you have any faith at all in Bloom knowing what he’s doing, then it should be abundantly clear that he didn’t trade a starting outfielder who hit in the heart of the order for a bench player and two middling prospects all while taking on money. Bradley will be a starter…

We’ve gone round, and round on this outfield D alignment 100 times over if not more. To say the situation becomes very clear if the Red Sox sign Suzuki to anybody, but Cora is expecting to know something that they don’t. I didn’t like the JBJ trade as it was with the idea of him playing being one of the worst hitters in baseball last year, and for the most part not having a great track record with the bat in his career prior to that, and now you’re gong to make him, and his $10M salary a 4th OF, and defensive replacement. That makes the trade to me even worse, and more than a head scratcher. Prospects, or not.

I've thought for some time that JBJ was signed to strengthen the OF. The configuration of Fenway cries out for a RF'er to be someone who could play CF for most other teams. IMO JBJ will get a lot of playing time and the Sox will bat him deep in the order and 'eat' his <.250 ba in exchange for his defense.>

You make it sound so simple! :)

JBJ will start in either CF or RF and bat ninth. At a minimum against RHP.

It’s that simple…

... and Sox fans will be glad to watch him, bailing out a pitching staff that replaced their innings leader, top winner, and under-30 starter from the past four years with older, broken-down veterans.

This is the example of Bloom throwing spaghetti against the wall to see if any sticks.

All I am saying is:

Have you seen Bradley swing a bat lately?

The thought of giving him 500 outs (at bats) a year is absolutely terrifying.

Are you asking Bloom?

No one has seen Bradley swing a bat lately. There was a lockout…

Last year Bradley had his lowest career BABIP despite posting his second highest LD% in his career. That’s not easy to do.

Statistically speaking, I can see the bounce back potential…

Lately is a relative term. How about I narrow it for you just watch any series of game between June and september 2021.

I disagree.

JBJ starts vs RHPs (about 65% of games). Kike plays 2B vs RHPs and CF vs LHPs.

(I'm hoping you are right, but Arroyo needs to stay healthy and play well to start over JBJ.)

No matter how things start out there had better be a plan B, and maybe more than that.

There's another report out there that the Sox are one of a handful of teams in on Jorge Soler. What's the board to make of that interest? Would Soler replace JD (if traded) at DH? Can he play LF better than JD... with Verdugo moving to RF, along with the usual JBJ/Kike CF/2B permutations? Is Soler -- an AL home run champ and World Series MVP -- Plan B if Suzuki chooses the West Coast?

I'm pretty certain we add a RH'd OF bat, even if it's not Suzuki. There is talk of JD Davis.

I sure hope plan B is not Duran in LF, JBJ in CF and Verdugo in RF, but is it could be the emergency fallback plan.

I called Bloom and he said no. But not emphatically.

At least that’s what I assumed he meant with all that of his “how did you get this number?” whining. Geez…

A little tip from the kitchen: Pasta should be served " al dente". Don't throw it against the wall. Bad idea.
