An expanded playoffs necessarily means a shortened reg. season, correct? As if, say, a RS fan like me would watch, say, Colorado fighting it out with (is there a team from Arizona?) rather than listening to even a meaningless RS game? (which I do almost every night of the summer?). I'm not a big fan of play-offs in any sport, but MLB, particularly in the snow, is bound to compete with the NBA for being the worst.

The season should be 150 games at most IMO. Early April and late October is not baseball weather in the Northeast.

162 games with doubleheaders every Sunday!!

Expand the rosters to 32 and have dbl headers 2-3 times a week!

Run an A team and a B team for each franchise with their combined records over a 120 game season determining entries into a drawing to see which A's should play which B's in a 7 inning winner takes all. After 1 round , the team's with the newest domed stadiums could play until just before Christmas with a winner's parade on New Year's day.

I don't think most owners want weekday daytime baseball.

Do you work for Manfred?

I don’t think very many players want 10 games in a week…

Make players play 3 games a day all summer rain or shine. You know, just like we all did when we played.

Players' parents to provide snacks for each game.

@PeteAbe

MLB: “We regret that, without a collective bargaining agreement in place, we must postpone the start of Spring Training games until no earlier than Saturday, March 5th."

NO games that are lost, because of the strike/lockout should be made up. Let both sides lose money on this farce, because they both deserve it.

I like the concept, but IMHO having a DH every Sunday is excessive.

How about this? Having every team required to play two 7-inning DH's/month. one at home and one on the road. Separate admissions of course. After all, we can't do too much to help the fans, especially if it costs the owners money. /s/

That would reduce the season by 12 days and allow the playoffs to be over before snow flies!

Sorry folks, but we do not need scheduled doubleheaders. There's always going to be a bunch of unscheduled DH's for rainouts anyway. And to be honest, I don't think anyone gets that excited about those DH's. If the Red Sox play a DH against the Yankees you're talking about 9 hours out of your day, and a lot of anxiety about the number of pitchers we're going through etc.

Seven inning double headers are the work of Satan…

100% agree, and 9 hours may be under estimated.

Can anyone explain the financial implications of missing ST games? (I mean for those negotiating). Players still get full salaries, correct? And do the owners lose anything significant if they lost a number of games?

(Just trying to think when the penalties for dicking around in negotiations begin to be exacted).

I doubt any loss in ST'ing revenue matters much.

I paid $50 a ticket to see the Sox vs the Braves and the stadium was full at Northport, Fla. They certainly make money on these games.

Two different questions. Yes, there is 'money to be made' at these games. My question is 'who gets it' and 'how much' of it is there. Although MLB owners like to extort every nickel out of their employees and from their host cities, are they losing enough by dropping pre-season games to care about them or to start negotiating seriously.
