Well, you're right. But the whole argument is kind of dumb IMHO.

Owners are different too, because they're actually human beings too.

Henry is BY FAR the best owner the Sox have ever had, and probably the best in baseball. Because he's not only wealthy but smart.

And you could probably say the same thing about some other random rich guy who would like to buy a team.

Anyway, I'd like to hear more about how the CBT shouldn't increase.

Are you sure? I have heard stories that several of them came from another Galaxy and only traveled to Earth to make money in an effort to bolster the economy on their home planets.

No way John Fisher is from Earth. Not gonna believe it. Ever…

I'm with Passan on this. You replace the 30 owners with the 'next 30' in line, and nothing would change (some teams might even be better run). But (I say this having watched a lot of minor league games), you replace MLB players with the next 1200 down, the difference is night and day. You can see this when a big league player is sent down to rehab with a AA or AAA team--it's like they're playing a different sport.

It's noticeable. I've been to enough MiLB games to know that the product is fun, but not as good as MLB.

If the game is competitive 90+ percent of the fans would not notice nor care. Remember until 1947 the best baseball players never played mlb. Right now America's best athletes are not striving to be major league baseball players. The players realize this and the owners do too. Never forget MLB is entertainment. So long as the crowd enjoys itself they will keep coming. Btw the Worcester Red Sox are hiring extra personnel because they expect a monster year at the gate.

@EvanDrellich

The meeting between MLB and the MLBPA has ended. Went close to 20 minutes. More TK.

Shorter than a Simpsons episode without commercials. Got it.

The sets of “America’s best athletes” and “America’s best baseball players” might not have as much overlap as you think…

The Red Sox weren't even on tv until 1948. Level of competition wasn't as high. I can see why people back then were confused. Plus lead in the gas and all.

Ship of fools. The owners and players both. Fighting over a bigger slice of the already large pie. Meanwhile , the world is a mess and the USA has a multitude of problems. Meanwhile , sports pages are filled with talk of the NFL draft combine and potential trades and draft choices. Who cares about spring training and opening day ? Ship of fools.

I'm not sure what this has to do with what I said, nor where those phrases come from (were you responding to a different post?) We were talking about baseball players. I was saying that the top 1200 baseball players were much better than the next 1200 baseball players.

Well said, and 100% agree. Emphasize on owners, and players both.

If you think we would have done as well the last 20 years with Peter Angelos or Arte Moreno as owner, you're certainly entitled to your opinion...

So, now MLB is saying there still may be a 162 game season. Manfred is such a lying clown.

MLBTR...

Finally a sizeable movement: "MLB offered to raise the base luxury tax threshold to $228MM next season, with that figure rising to $238MM over the course of the CBA..."

SNY’s Andy Martino tweets that MLB’s most recent proposal does not include any movement on the pre-arbitration bonus pool. The league is still offering a flat $30MM pool with no increases over the five-year term of the agreement. The MLBPA had lowered its ask from a $115MM peak to $80MM at last check, though the union was also believed to be seeking annual increases to the size of the pool.

A lying clown? Nice, but he just changes the question, before you think you now the answers.

He annoys the hell out of me. I'm sure the players think much worse.

Unless the next 1200 are weaker fielders or cannot throw strikes…

One real world example of the dropoff from the top 600 MLB'ers to just the lower ranked 600 MLB'ers is the performance of the bench utility guys and back end of bullpens in MLB , as well as the 14-15 guys on the 40 man roster when they do get called up to play. The Red Sox alone can provide many samples of the dropoff in talent/skill and outcomes when you go below the "starting" 9 or top 4-5 pitchers per team. Ryan Weber comes to mind as well as Marwin G.

Right, but we were talking about replacing the best 1200 with the next best 1200. So weaker players going against weaker players.

From what I've seen of Polar Park they deserve a monster year. I was there for a game last year. It's a beautiful park, the food is good and varied, the people who work there are polite and friendly, and the players are a heartbeat from playing in Fenway. What's not to like? I'll be going back this year whether there are games in Fenway or not.

In addition, there are several sports bars within an easy walk for pre - and - post game libations. Win-win.

The only downside is that I still have trouble saying "Woo-Sox". Ughhhhh

It does not matter. It is all about the level of competitiveness. 99 percent of baseball fans can not tell the difference between a AAA level ball player and major leaguer without the laundry to guide them. Fire all 1200 major leaguers and replace them with the next best the vast majority won't know the difference so long as the games are competitive.

He’s wrong, but let’s not overlook how talented the next 1200 really are.

Franchy Cordero is closer to Mike Trout than any of us or anyone any of us ever played with in high school is to Franchy Cordero…
