JBJ is going to kick Jaffe's a**.

There will be a really awkward photo of the two on a tarmac somewhere.

It's not looking great. Feels like how LF felt going into 2021.

They have Renfroe at 1.7 fWAR and JBJ at 0.1.

Projectors with Recency Effect.

Of course. I'd bet the gap is less than 1.0 by season's end, and maybe even JBJ equals or betters Renfroe.

His dWAR should blow Renfroe away.

Much has been made of the acquisition of JBJ and the anchor he will be on the lineup.

My personal mathematical WAPM projection (which I understand has zero credibility on this site) is the following for JBJ

.248/.318/.395 with 13 HRs in 500 PAs. Can you live with that from the number 9 hitter??

JBJ is a bit of a projection enigma for me. His hitting profile sugge4sts a much, much higher BABIP than he seems to be capable of in real life. But I can live with this projection as being definitive.

So that should settle that...

The projections I saw for JBJ was 210/ 12 HR/ 44 RBI in 473 PAs.

I’m close on HRs.

I think they sell JBJ short on BA. But he also has a long track record of doing that to himself…

I could see him at .220 18 58

.295 OBP

.400 SLG

.695 OPS

That's basically his 2018 season. Fine by me.

@PeteAbe

Alex Cora says he sees Jackie Bradley Jr. and Christian Arroyo being a “strict platoon” in RF.

Interesting but nor surprising, to me.

My guess is, JBJ will be a late inning defensive replacement in many of the games Arroyo starts.

JBJ WRC+vs LHP 81

Arroyo WRC+ vs LHP 88

Is the difference great enough to make up for the defense?

What a relief; Sox finally added that righty bat outfielder we were missing all winter.

RF in Fenway is a tough place to play, and a non outfielder trying to play out there doesn’t sound like a good plan to me. I thought the idea of getting JBJ back was to improve the D in the outfield, which JBJ will do, but what does Arroyo out in RF do?

Get injured most likely.

... keeps JD safe in the batting cage, preparing for his next at bat as DH.

But of course, this new "platoon" is subject to change... Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that Cora announced JD would be the righthanded hitting outfielder this year?

I think he just said he'd see more time in the OF.

So far for JBJ:

0 for 9, 1 BB, 1 K

Not getting hits isn't ideal, but I can't complain about the 10% k rate. He's not looking completely lost out there.

He's not the problem. It's the other 8 guys (mostly) in the line up. Kike' needs to get it going.

He started off last year 2 for 21. I'm not worried.

I'm not either. Not worried about the offense at all, though the first four games have been frustrating.

Especially noteworthy because one of those two hits came in his first at bat against John Means. So he then went 1 for his next 20…

Renfroe:

1 for 14, 2 BB, 5 K, 0 RBI for the RBI king

Let’s not leave out my favorite Flintstone Schwarber 2 for 14, 1 HR

Suzuki is already at 0.3 fWAR for the year.
