Correction: Players feel a floor will then have a cap that follows

Of course, the owners will try, but if the players refuse, there wont be one.

I'm not sure why you feel they have to be linked.

It seems obvious, the lower-spending teams are not using revenue sharing on player salaries.

FIFY!

It'll only involve a cap if the players vote for it to happen.

Which is very likely a zero chance of happening this time.

If and when we go beyond opening day without an agreement, pressure will mount faster on the players, who will be without a paycheck. Some are young and live the high life. The owners can afford to look at the situation over the life of the contract so break even in year 1 with the profits coming year 2 through 5 are in a different position. The fan reaction is probably not a big part of the equation. The players in the end will probably make some real concessions. A CBT form of cap may be included.

I would be surprised if this gets that far. The owners have a lot to lose too considering that revenue was down 2020-21.

The players made too many concessions last go around. I think they do better at standing firm this year.

Both sides suck. What are they doing right now? Watching the days go by is what. They won't do anything until actual damage to the game and the fans has been done.

They might agree to begin play under the old rules until an agreement is made.

If the owners are amenable to that, why is there a lockout?

What did the players do exactly? They got locked out.

I don't mean the players, I mean the union reps, the negotiators. I mean Tony.

Excited to Have JBJ back saving runs for Redsox once again.Question though moving forward into the 22 season ? Are we not set in OF now ? LF Verdugo CF JBJ RF KIKE ? Duran as fourth outfielder seems like a natural fit .The infield is in Flux to me though and yes they can kick the can and stand pat with horrific infield D or they can make Xander a Redsox for Life and move him now to 2nd .Devers future is as a 1b DH sooner than later but we will see him at 3rd in 22. I have to believe the Redsox are all in on a FA SS . The pitching market to me needs to be via FA but wouldn’t be shocked by a trade .Excited about 22. Edited by Swiharts Ghost

I’m all for having JBJ’s D back again, but where will the 96 RBI that Renfroe had last year be made up? While the Sox were a few games away from the WS they were also a razors edge away from not making the Post season at all, and needed everyone of those 96 RBI.

Hey, you're right, we need Fred Flintstone back.

Folks who take the time and effort to post their ideas and their opinions on sites like TalkSox will probably be die hard baseball fans until they shuffle off this mortal coil. But there are many more casual fans , especially younger fans, who represent the customer base for MLB. They are not die hard fans by any means. MLB is going to lose them as customers if they fail to understand this and continue to alienate them.

That's 4 lefthanded bats. They need someone else to rotate in.

I remember JBJ hitting well against HOU in the ALCS. I don't remember Hunter doing that at all.

I would say that casual fans maybe aren't even aware that a lockout is happening.

Does he pitch?

He does seem to throw a lot of strikes. But mostly as a bowler. Still it’s impressive given the ball he uses isn’t even close to being round…

No he doesn’t pitch, and the Sox need a lot more help there, but I was talking about the 96 RBI that Renfroe had last year had to be made up somehow, and it would take a lot more than JBJ to do that.

No doubt.

JBJ's defense might save a few runs, but 96 is a lot to make up.

Hopefully, we find a good RH'd bat for the OF to ease some of the offense lost, and maybe it's Suzuki. Or, we get a decent 2B bat, so Kike plays OF FT.

We need the pen built up.

The trade o f Renfroe only makes sense if the Sox plan to get a replacement such as Suzuki. JBJ doesn't fit the need and was far too expensive for a 4th outfielder. I don't see the others we picked up as making up for the value difference. Perhaps Renfroe won't repeat his gaudy numbers, but still I didn't like the trade.

Yes we need 2nd base help, 1st base help and perhaps catching help. There may be ways to obtain that internally. Our biggest need is still with pitching. i don't think Bloom's acquisitions have solidified our starting rotation or BP. I am also a doubter about the timing of the end of the lockout. Until then, nothing can happen that will allow Bloom to improve the team. All the talk is nothing more than speculation. Bloom seldom does what the fans speculate that he should do.

I think we should have been asking that question anyways. Before last year his career-high was 68, he had an all-around career year and I'm not sure we should expect him to repeat those numbers.

Yeah, the 96 RBI were a fluke, as RBI often are. But of course some folks are going to fixate on certain numbers.
