Red Sox trade Hunter Renfroe in trade involving Jackie Bradley Jr

I know Suzuki is following the Sox on IG, but are they really in on him too?

That's the multi-million dollar question.

864 OPS in 2nd half last year. Had a 237 wRC+ as a 1B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He had a nice stretch of 114 PAs. Yippy.

He also posted a .503 OPS vs LHP and his success was limited to being part of a platoon, And despite being left-handed, still did not muster full time platoon playing time...

True, he started 67 of 99 games facing a RH'd starter.

Having Olsen ahead of you could be a major factor, and he only had 21 PAs as a DH, despite having a much better OPS than Moreland (212 PAs as DH) and Lowrie (212 PAs).

As mediocre as he seems, he had the 4th best OPS on the team (300+ PAs) at .754.

Actually, 137 PAs with an even better OPS...

.904 OPS in first 59 PAs

.511 OPS in middle 111 PAs

.878 OPS last 137 PAs

(.823 in his last 167 PAs)

He was just a throw in for the trade guys...

By "new prospects" are you referring to the Renfroe trade? If so, Binelas and Hamilton don't have a ton of trade value.

Per BTV:

Dalbec 13.5

Binelas 4.9

Hamilton 5.4

Bassitt 17

Brown 3.3

Puk 2.1

Trivino 1.1

I threw Seth Brown in there just because if the Sox trade Dalbec, I'm not sure who would start at 1b for the Sox.

His initials are TC -- and they don't stand for Tom Caron (but Tom might stand for him during ovations).

There's no chance Casas wears a Sox uni until after the super 2 deadline (unless the CBA changes that calculation). I believe Casas will be up at some point in 2022, but probably not until June.

BTV accepted this as a minor overpay by the Sox:

20.1 Duran

13.5 Dalbec

4.8 Winckowski

3.5 Seabold

for

39.6 Montas (2 years of control vs 1 year from Bassit)

3.3 Brown (place-setter for Casas)

1.1 Trivino (closer)

-8.6 Piscotty (RH'd hitting salary dump)

I'd rather do my trade. I don't like yours at all.

Montas is better than Bassit and has two years of control, so he's worth more than double Bassit.

Picotty gives us a RH'd bat with decent defense and brings down the return needed.

BTV would have accepted this trade without Winckowski or Seabold, but I like to give more than what BTV suggests.

Service time clocks are definitely on the table that nobody is sitting at right now. If the Sox have an inkling that's changing and trade Dalbec before Opening Day, there's a good chance it's because they deem Casas ready. If they trade Dalbec and pick up a placeholder (or better yet, sign Schwarber), and then pull a Kris Bryant-delayed call-up on Casas, it means the union got some other huge concessions. If they sign Kris Bryant instead to play first base, it means they traded Dalbec and Casas, and swapped Bloom for Dombrowski.

My head is spinning on this one.

That's the multi-million dollar question.

It's been reported that the Three teams in on him heavy are NYY, TOR, and BOS. BOS has the best fit and need for him, and his swing was made for Fenway park.

Doesn't mean anything right now but I say there's plenty of reason to speculate the Sox are in on him.

If the labor dispute doesn’t end soon enough, he might just return to NPB…

Maybe, I think he will sign though. Pure conjecture here on my part but I wonder if he has a pretty good ideal of where he wants to go and what they're going to give him and everyone is just waiting for the dust to settle. I'd be more prone to believing he goes back to NPB if the lockout extends into the start of the season.

Maybe? I think he still tries to go to MLB. I know Sugano was thinking of coming over again, but he backed out because it will take longer for the pitchers to get in their offseason routine. Hitters can just kind of roll out of bed and show up whenever Spring Training starts.

Interesting that no West Coast teams are listed. Usually that's the go to. I believe he spoke with DiceK about coming over here and was teammates with Brasier.

Can't he negotiate a contract during the dispute though?

No. No MLB deals can be agreed upon, only MiLB deals. His signing period was put on a freeze. I believe he will have 20 days after the CBA is signed to find a team before he is returned.

My bet is he signs a day or two after the freeze is lifted.

I agree. even if he cant technically sign yet, I guarantee hes still talking to teams.

I would not be surprised if many agents are, wink-wink, "talking" with teams.

Maybe I'm naive, but I would think that would be uncommon, as it's an insult both to players and owners. There are lawyers here, though, what do you think? Isn't this tantamount to a no-contact order or legal agreement? What do you think is happening?

It's ok if they're just talking about recipes for the holiday feast: "Five boxes of ziti? I'll need at least seven -- I gotta big family to feed."

Yes, "When we last talked you mentioned you wanted 10 boxes of Christmas cookies, but I think we only have 9.5 boxes, now."

Maybe so. But given the litigious nature of both agents and owners, I am still skeptical.

It's probably not rampant.

It's just hard to imagine two sides in a rushed and intense negotiation, and then just stopping cold turkey. Silence.

Nearly three weeks ago MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported that "nearly every West Coast team is in on the Japanese star."

MLB.com is keeping track of all the latest news and rumors surrounding Japanese outfielder Seiya Suzuki, who is available to Major League Baseball clubs via the posting process.

The Mets were the only East Coast team mentioned in that Seiya Suzuki roundup posted at MLB.com on December 1.
