Andrus then. I'm not even sure Piscotty plays anymore...

Whether he plays or not, he's owed another 6M or so from them next season.

Piscotty or Andrus

Okay- third or 4th highest.

Still, in context, having your closer be a top 4 salary is a bit strange. right?

Yes, in 2022 it would be a bit strange if your 3rd highest player only made 3M.

Indeed. This is the way baseball is.

I just don't understand why they don't move to Sacramento.

Because they are trying to get more money out of Vegas.

I'm not sure I see a "surprise" move in the future. I think it's going to be a ho hum offseason and they'll try to extend Xander.

I like the idea of extending Xander, but I actually do think there’s a 50/50 chance he’s dealt…

Cots has the Pirates with no guaranteed contracts above min wage, right now.

They have 11 arbs with the highest estimate being about $4.3M for Reynolds. (He may be traded, this winter.)

They have 3 players who are on their last arbs (Kuhl $3.1M est, Gamel $2.5, and Shreve $2.5M)

OAK will likely try to dump Andrus and his $15M deal. (Maybe the Sox could trade Bogey somewhere else for a pitcher, then take on Andrus, so we could gte Montas and Trivino for much cheaper returns. Piscotty makes $7.25M in 2022 with an option for 2023.

They have 10 arbs with Olsen, Chapman and Manaea making close to $10M est.

Bassit $8.5

Montas $5.3 (one more arb for '23)

Laureano & Pinder $3M

Trivon $2.8M

Kemp $2.5

Well , unlike the Bloom fan club crew , I don't mention Dombrowski every single day and in almost every single thread.

You did when he was the active GM.

(lol)

BTV accepted this one:

Bogey to HOU

Urquidy & Downs to OAK

Andrus, Montas & Trivino to BOS

I don’t think Bogey will get traded at all. Unlike Mookie he likes Boston, and I just don’t see JH saying to trade him even though I think it’s the best thing to do without the contract getting worked out.

Bogaerts has already expressed he plans to opt out after next season. Whether he likes Boston or not, this revelation also carried the same level of surprise as if he had predicted that tomorrow night will be dark…

No surprise no matter what Bogey does, and I didn’t stay he was staying, but I still don’t think he gets traded.

He’s basically in the exact same position Mookie was in when he was traded.

I’d prefer he got extended, but I have to think the trade option is still on the table, especially to a team that loses out with all the potential shortstop movement this off-season…

I prefer he gets extended too, but not for no long term $30 million contract, and there will be some of those thrown at some of the SS this off season, which I wouldn’t do for any of them.

One difference I see with Mookie is that, supposedly, a prime motivator for trading Mookie was to get under the tax threshold and re-set. They're not really in that situation right now.

Also, we look better set to contend going into 2022 than the team did going into 2020. To justify trading Bogaerts you would have to get something of serious value in return. But I'm not sure teams will be as eager to give up talent for Bogaerts, a 4-5 win player, as the Dodgers were for Mookie, an 8-10 win player.

Also Mookie was not going to sign in Boston anyways.

Plus, the team had shown they didn't want to pay him 400 million.

Which was a smart financial move by them. Mookie was a good player, but not worth that kind of money.

We really don’t know if it’s any different with Bogaerts…

I think Bogey would if the Sox matched what another team offered, where Mookie wouldn’t.

Both parts of that are assumptions.

Mookie never said he wanted to leave Boston. He was just adamant about testing free agency. Bogaerts’ decision to opt out also means he wants to test free agency…

I doubt he's traded, too, but getting just a QO pick would be so much worse than the Betts deal.

If we extend him, I hope it's to play 2B or 3B for the majority of the deal.

The guy can flat out hit. Look what he did, this year playing with a bum wrist for much of it.

It would, but how much talent do you think you'd get back trading him? He's a 4-5 win player with an AAV of 20 million. What does BTV say about it?

I see the situations as being very similar, but the scale of value is less.

Bogey has a lot of value, but it's not that of Betts after 2019.

Do we really risk getting just a QO pick in hopes we can outbid and overpay Bogey for 6+ years, minimum?

I really think we extend him or trade him- maybe at the deadline, which would do him a favor with the loss of the comp pick.
