I think we offer it, and he takes in hopes he has a good and full year and get's a longer term big deal after 2022.

Think the Yankees would take him?

Big deal.

ERod is good, but if the Yankees don’t sign him, they’ll just sign someone better…

To me, it makes all the sense in the world for them to do so.

I could go for that, but will he?

If he goes to free agency and it’s the best offer, probably yes. I might go $51/3 or $62M/4

At the very worst he's a league average starter and he's been durable for us. You make him a reasonable offer. And then solve other problems.

What is a "reasonable" offer?

He might not even accept a "reasonable offer" for us to move on to other problems.

Is he worth $16M x 4 or 5 years?

$17M x 3-4 years?

$18M x 2-3 years?

E-Rod is basically a bogstandard #2-3 starter who has been better in the past and is on the right side of 30. The answer to all your questions is probably yes. he's the sort of player team might throw money at if they're gambling on him pulling off a good year and need some filler for the middle of their rotation.

I honestly think E-Rod will be in demand from several contenders or teams looking to pad their rotation.

It took him a while to get past being an obsessive nibbler that took 100 pitches to get through 4-5 innings, but once he did, he's been remarkably consistent, other than the missed COVID year and 1/3 seeason recovery period to start 2021.

The team's winning % is the highest when he pitches more than any other pitcher in MLB since 2018. Correct me, if I'm wrong.

I am one of the 2 no’s, because I think he would accept it.

He might, and that’s the risk. But if that’s the worst case scenario, it’s certainly not a bad one. There are much worse worst case scenarios in which he is not offered a QO…

While it is good to have ERod in the rotation , if you are really all that budget conscious , do you want to spend that much on a pitcher with a 4.16 career ERA ?

I wouldn't have a problem with him accepting it. It's a little more than I'd like to pay, but it's only for one year. He's a solid starter who pitched much better than his inflated ERA suggests that he pitched.

Yes because the years are always a larger concern than the money with higher salaries…

I think he would definitely reject the QO and go for a multi-year deal. He's very much in the same ballpark as Stroman, and Stroman has been projected to get 4/92.

It is not a worse case. I would rather lock him up for a multi year (3 or 4) at a much Lower AAV than the QO or move onto someone else.

My first choice is we offer the QO and he says Yes.

Second: offer and he says NO.

Third: no QO offer, and we extend him at $15M x 4.

An option that could still be on the table.

Either he accepts the QO and has one season at a higher AAV or he rejects it and you continue to negotiate anyway or move on to someone else in this lackluster free agent group.

But if the goal is to keep him at a lower AAV, and the fear is he’d accept a QO, that really is the “worst case scenario” under those conditions. And it’s not a bad case at all, especially if Henry allows for higher payroll…
