One never knows how much they'd do for their kids until it's time to do something.

I think almost every parent would help their kid, if they had the money to do it.

It's not necessarily trying to get your kid found not guilty, but to get the best treatment possible.

Mental illness is hard to deal with, especially when it turns violent.

The range of outcomes is usually all bad. A parent just tries to get medical care and legal support for their troubled child while hoping for what would seem like a miracle.

Exactly, and even if you know they did what they were accused of, you are thinking in the context of them being your kid with a major mental illness... not really trying to pay for them to be found innocent and escape all culpability.

Dave O'Brien is pretty terrible. Any game where Eck isn't on is just brutal to watch.

OB is just to dry. REM,and Orsillo were great together, and didn’t need a 3 man booth.

I will never forget him. A Boston boy who got a chance to come home. He was a truly gifted player. An excellent second baseman and man could he run. God Bless him -

So who will replace Jerry on the Nesn broadcasts.?Most people will watch regardless of the announcers but more enjoyable

with an entertaining crew. Eck does not want to do all the games and who else is there?

Guys like Pedro ,Millar maybe even Middlebrooks might be entertaining but doubt they want to travel that much.

Merloni?

I can understand why Eck does not want to do it all the time. Can you imagine being stuck with Dave O'Brien alone an entire baseball season?

Yeah..I guess that would be an inconvenient truth right? Mourn his passing & feel for his family, but I dont feel he was the great human being he's being made out to be.... Sorry.

Wow. Someone died. And you are pissed because his eulogists say good things about him? Jesus Christ, Dude, he was a PUBLIC FIGURE, an ENTERTAINER. You are aware that the roles entertainers play are not their 'true selves', correct? Let people mourn. The public figure is what I and everyone here will miss. Unlike some, we're not particularly interested in his private life, his politics, his sex life, his favorite color, or how many hours he works in a soup kitchen.

I'm really going to miss listening to him on NESN. The last two years with COVID, listening to him tell it as saw it on air with that NE accent, really gave the broadcast a local feel (nothing against O'Brien or Eck). I always rooted for him from when he was at the Angels. That kind of history and perspective will be sorely missed. He had a tough life. RIP.

This was going to be my take. Living in Maryland it was cool to hear such a thick New England accent doing Red Sox game, made it more authentic.

Donnie Sadler's issues with Jerry have to do with Jerry's son Jared murdering his girlfriend and possible "enabling" by Jerry.

The only bad thing he's accused of is paying his son's legal bills. At any point, a judge could have stepped in and thrown Jared away for a long time.

And if all he did was pay the bills for his own son, I have no problem with that. In fact, I don't even see the problem there. In that same situation, I do the same thing...

I know. I have criminal relations myself, as do most of the posters here. That has nothing to do with what RS fans are grieving about.

And "enabling", while rarely a good thing, is not exactly an easy decision. People often do it out of fear of what will happen if they don't help out. It's not on par with being a co-conspirator and it absolutely doesn't mean you condone the other person's actions...

I'm also not sure what else Remy could have done? Tough love? Therapy? I'm not sure there is anything out there that could have turned Jared around.

Also, whatever heartbreak we have for the woman who was murdered, I'm sure Jerry felt much more profound grief than many of us will ever know.

I would be very surprised if he did not try other angles. Hey, they don't always work...

Late to the thread but this is terrible news. I’m gunna miss him in the booth and the flavor he brought to Red Sox broadcasts.

Jim Kelly is one of my favorite athletes and he continues to battle and battle just like he did on the field. He seems to be doing well now. Countless lives have been ruined by this dreaded disease and it seems like everyone has been affected either directly or indirectly. A stupid amount of money is donated every year to cancer research and yet we are still stuck with chemo and radiation. Incomprehensible.
