DHern is going to close. It'll be an adventure.

Close what? He throws fewer strikes in baseball than I do in bowling…

Sox are playing FA musical chairs.

They're reportedly interested in all the songs. "We'd be doing our fans a disservice if we didn't take the time to listen to all the genres," said Jack Clark's Uncle Dick. "Except rap -- those guys don't sing; they just yell."

I thought they all just mumble now?

I doubt both Houck and Whitlock start, so the other could close.

I'd have Barnes, Taylor and others ahead of DHern, but your comment was well-taken.

My only optimistic view on our pen is that I've felt this way about our pen for many of the last few years, and they keep surprising me.

Have we got lucky?

Is Cora a genius at pen usage?

Are our pitchers better than we think they are?

Houck/Whitlock

Barnes

Taylor

Diekman

Strahm

Brasier

Sawamura

Davis (no options)

DHern/Bazardo/Valdez/Feltman/ZKelly of a converted AAA starter: Winckowski, Crawford, Seabold, Bello, Groome

DHern closing was slightly in jest, but I could see them trying it out.

Lucky? Yes, especially in terms of starter health.

Genius? No, but he's good at it.

Better than we think they are? Probably, but that's not saying much.

I think Cora is really good with the pen he's been given. (2018's was pretty good, but it started leaking late in the season. I remember some felt Joe Kelly should not have even made the playoff roster, yet he turned into a hero.)

As for starter health, we did lose Sale for most of 2021, and Houck missed some time, but yes, the rest stayed very healthy.

In 2020 (no Cora), we missed ERod and Sale and 25% of Eovaldi's starts.

In 2019, Sale missed time, Price started just 22 games and Eovaldi just 12. We got 37 starts from Velazquez, Johnson, Cashner, Chacin, Weber, Lakins and 4 others.

Brad Miller to Rangers and Jonathan Villar to Cubs, so it looks like no significant upgrade at 2B via free agency, this year.

Archie Bradley to LAA for under $4M.

Corey Dickerson $5M to Cards

Matthew Boyd to SFG for $5.2M with over $2M in incentives.

Royals looking into Montas trade!

Options are dwindling as we speak.

Boyd is injured. Did we really want Dickerson?

The continued nibbling for lesser known fill-in the blank players still represents ,IMO, the last year of a plan (2019-2022) to truly clear the higher priced existing contracts and dead money deals, get a final year ( maybe trade deadline selloffs for legit prospects) from the older guys including JDM , Vaz , Bogaerts , Barnes etc. Bloom and ownership then will be looking for young controlled player breakthroughs from the rebuilt farm system , and a few mid career FA's next year for a run in 2023.

\

The relative, unexpected success in 2021 provided just enough gas to the Red Sox fandom base to coast through 2022 , plus the CBA terms are now a known . This season is a bridge going from the cliff to the sunny beaches of the north shore (intentional click bait). It is my only explanation for the standstill passivity in Boston.

Yes, that all makes sense.

And "nibbling" is a good word for it.

Not bad. Fans like me are dupes. Gotta wonder if Mr. Brightsides was really organic or part of the conspiracy. A bipartisan committee should start subpoenaing texts and emails now.

Or what I've suspected from the beginning of Bloom County -- that Henry is planning on selling, and Kennedy is the Red House Press Secretary.

Jorge Soler, thought by some to be our possible plan B to Susuzki, is talking to ATL & SDP. No rumors connected to the Sox.

Moon question ? Do you think Chaim is working on something big and it’s stealth mode ? It better be right ? I mean if not this is Paethetic and sad.

Notin people poke fun at this player why ? No he’s not a perennial all star but either was Jonny Gomes or Napoli. I am becoming increasingly frustrated with Chaim in regards to our Joke of a Defensive infield .I love Rafy and Bogey is an amazing player but both are horrendous at their prospective positions.I am not convinced that we ink both for these reasons and why would he ? My thought is move Xander off Short now and not later .I look at Devers as an all bat player who is at a position he’s failed in for far too long .Something has to give .who projects out as the better player and who projects as more malleable to a position change effective immediately.I don’t see any balls by Chaim on this front and worse I see Cora as a problem with this .I am sickened by the thought we turned away Correa a significant upgrade at SS the next 3 years why ? Money ?...we have Meyer and Casas chomping at the bit the next few years if not this year in Casas case .Best case scenario for Rafy going forward ? Second base ? Don’t see it guys It’s first for Rafy or DH .Rafy I offer 8 years 200 and that’s more than generous .Bogey could play second a couple years and move to left another 5 .I offer Bogey 8 years 240 million .I don’t know if either accept it but I’m ok with that .Correa is an elite Bat and Glove another 4 years and then position move to third another 4 both at elite level .i go 8 years 328

What the hell are we doing… resigning Shaw?? Have we become the raiders of old and just signing has been guys because they were once good in their prime…. Jesus, Bloom! If we’re planning to suck just make the moves to hit the basement and bank of trade assets!

Fine with me. He was a dog before being traded to the Braves last year.
