We get swept…. It’s on the table! Hell… the Rays enjoy themselves in the game… enough to have some popcorn and relax! This team lacks something. Whether it’s leadership, talent, pitching, defense or passion to show up game in and game out. It’s Cora’s job to have them ready to go…. A sweep and that’s on him!

Oh ok.. so you’re officially a prisoner of the moment troll. Ciao.

Neither the SOX or the Rays are going to win the WS. At this point it appears the Rays will linger longer, but in the end it will be a failure by both teams. The SOX in recent years have been successful 4 times. The Rays have the smallest payroll.

Idk about that. I can see the rays going to the World Series again. They can beat whoever in the next round. They can give themselves a shot.

Watching the steal from 3rd base to home. This team was sleeping at the wheel tonight. Just terrible.

Unfortunately… that play will be shown quite a bit.

That team is hungry and it shows. They look well managed and focused. Would it surprise me if they win the World Series? No. But again.. let’s not just jump the gun here. This series is far from over.

Musta been luck.

He needs to work with a pro to learn hos to really hit.

How soon some forget the kid went 4 for 5 with 2 HRs in game 162 to get us here.

If this isn't an example of the absurdity of knee jerk reactionism, I don't know what is.

Next, we'll be hearing Cora should be fired.

Ortiz just said he would tell him to cut his swing down and use the whole field. Less is more in the postseason is the term he used.

Frank Thomas agreed with him.

They've always been well-managed under Cash. The Rays have, imho, the best analytics in baseball and Cash uses them to a tee. He doesn't manage with his gut; he strictly goes with the numbers.

It was a hell of a play by Arozarena, partially enabled by the shift.

They opined on the Fox postgame show that during the regular season with the normal Tampa crowd, he likely would have been out. With the stands fuller and much louder, no one could hear Devers shout.

So you’re telling me that you are Henry and when it comes time to pony up that contract demand you’re going to be willing to open the checkbook up…. Dominican players that start out “pudgy” never really are able to control their weight! The kid has to lose weight every winter just to get into game shape! He keeps this approach at the plate over his career and we’ve seen the best of him! Players have long careers because they care about the shape of their body! You never did see Bonds, Griffey, Pujols, even Cruz swing out of their shoes on ever pitch! Proof is in the pudding and just calling it as it is! I can’t be the only one thinking this way… and if nobody else agrees…. You’re just hating on my post

This is one of the dumbest posts I’ve ever seen on this forum, and that’s saying a lot. You do realize Devers is only 24 right? You’re also comparing him to generational talents in Griffey, Bonds and Pujols. I guess you’re also forgetting how Nelson Cruz career started. He used to “swing out of his shoes” on every pitch and didn’t even become a regular MLB player till he was 28, 4 years older than Devers. But, whatever.

The Rays are a better team than we are this year. It was obvious earlier in the year and its obvious now. How they manage to field a team of younger players that are as competent as they are on the diamond is beyond me. But their vitality and health is obvious but the usual lack of competence is not. Meanwhile we have guys broken on the sidelines or playing with injury or recovering from injury that are really good ballplayers that suffer the usual physical maladies of the 162. We are older as a team but not more competent for it, just more frail for it.

Where the Rays may falter is the same place they faltered last time they were in position to go all the way. Will the innings that have piled up on their pen catch up to them late in a serious WS run?

Frank Thomas agreed with him.

Did they say he's an unprofessional hitter or anything even close?

No doubt, he's unorthodox, and I would not argue against calling him a big undisciplined, but the kid walks enough to show he's not a hack. He hits so much, it's not a fluke, and I'm not sure trying to mess with his approach is such a good idea.

To me, it helps a team having a variety of hitting approaches in the line-up.

The absurdity is overwhelming and toxic.

moon, I hate to say it, but this place will not be good again until the season's over and the Negative Nellies clear out. They can be insufferable.

You do realize which team win the AL pennant last year and which one had the fourth draft pick. It’s not like the Sox are the favorites here…

According to denny galehouse, the Rays have no business being favored over a team they finished 8 games ahead of! :D

I could see the Rays win the WS. Hard to see the Sox winning 3 straight series considering the rollercoaster this season has been.

This doesn't mean that I don't think the Sox can beat the Rays. If they win won tonight, effectively splitting the Rays' homestand, Sox will be in a great position.

They just have to put this one game aside and get back to it.

The weight comment is pretty insane. I guess this references Pablo Sandoval?

Well, this is what Sandoval looked like when he was 24: https://www.amazon.com/Pablo-Sandoval-2012-Topps-Finest/dp/B00WVUHFL4

Devers looks much more put together than that. Seems like if he's losing weight every offseason that he is controlling his weight?

There is an ignore feature.

Yes, and I've started using it lately.

It's the toxic cloud billowing out from the game threads that can be a bit depressing.

I couldn't catch the game as I would want but I saw a lot of hungry and aggressiveness from TB. We lacked of that. We need to play way harder and focus if we want to win this. Also you just can't win when yo leave 20 men on base and don't score a single run. Yo can't pretend to win when they steal you home; Taylor was more focus in his ballet delivery than the runner on 3B. Unacceptable. This is POs. Rodriguez is not a PO caliber SP. Send Pivetta if we advance.

Let's go, this ain't over.

I think the use of Barry Bonds as a model of how to treat one's body justifies adding that poster to my already bulging Ignore file.

Sometimes, you just have to do it for your own sanity. I take everyone off ignore before the start of every year and give them second, third and fourth chances.

I know. I should just let go.

I doubt I even show up to the game thread, today.

What the nattering nabobs of negativism have completely ignored is the absolute importance of MLB adding a second wild card team to each league, thus necessitating a wild card game, which in turn was and is intended to give the Division winner, also the team with the best record in that League, a clear advantage in the Division Series.

We won't see our best starter until game 3 of the ALDS, and we will see him just once unless he pitches on very short rest or relieves.

All that said, I was impressed with how the Rays won last night, especially their quickness in the field and on the basepaths.

I'm nervous about Sale on the mound tonight, but also think the Sox have a real shot at winning.

Toughen up, Sandy (Supreme Court Associate Justice) baby. I put no one on ignore. And I at least glance at the game thread, where I already have posted for today's game.

About Devers. Yes, I worry about his weight, but right now he looks pretty good to me and moves well on defense and on the basepaths. His swing pisses me off now and then, but you cannot not love the results. He has got to get rid of that giant wad of tobacco, which I gather is intended to calm his nerves or whatever.

I think Eovaldi is the team MVP, but will not quarrel with anyone who says Devers, errors and all.

Didnt Cruz also have help from PEDs?

It's not about being tough. It's about the sheer absurdity of so many posts.

I rarely put anyone on ignore, and only one poster has ever been on ignore for more than a few weeks (and still is.)

There is no purpose to the thread for me, when it gets like last night.

I joined this site, because I miss the water cooler Sox chatter after moving out of New England, but I never heard chatter like that at any water cooler I went to, while living in Maine.

I get the frustration- fueled anger, but it's beyond that on that thread.

I don't want to get into a long drawn out discussion on what I think a real fan should be like, but to me, no true Sox fan should ever display that much hate and total disdain to a team they follow. I'm not getting preachy, here. To each his own, but that doesn't mean I have to choose to get near it.
