It's gotta be one of the biggest surprises in all of MLB- not just that he's closing, but that he's doing a fine job at it!

 

I'm really thinking we take the $10M option rather than pay the $1.5M buy-out. Maybe, we restructure the deal.

JD may opt out, if he values a longer term deal over this one year left. I doubt he'll do it, but he may think a 3-4 year offer at less per year is better than just this one year deal.

 

I seriously doubt we trade Dalbec, but not because we don't like how Schwarber plays 1B, but because he is low cost and still has upside.

 

I don't think we re-sign Schwarber, unless we plan on trading Verdugo or Renfroe or platooning them, when Schwarber does not DH or play 1B. I doubt we plan on Kike at 2B and Verdugo in CF for all of 2022.

Schwarber is a good lefty bat, which the Sox don't have many of, and he can play LF and/or 1b. So I would be tempted to keep even though I like the outfield of Verdugo, Kike, and Renfroe, Dalbec at 1b--who is better than you give him credit for--and JDM as the DH.

 

If JD doesn't opt out, I doubt the SOX attempt to sign Schwarber. I believe the SOX have enough offense w/o Schwarber. What the SOX desperately need is pitching and available money should go in that direction. Dalbec has proven as of late that he can be an everyday 1st baseman and the OF of Dugo, Kike, and Renfroe should not be messed with. I'd also like to keep Iggy, especially with Arroyo's magnetism towards injury. The ideal situation for next season would be to have both Houck and Whitlock in the BP. Also, I would love to have Richards back in the pen, but his cost may prevent that.

I'd love to have Schwarber back, even if JD stays, but our budget is not limitless.

 

I think we have higher priorities, such as a solid SP'er and a solid pen arm or two.

 

Maybe bring back Iggy as our utility IF'er. Maybe T Shaw on a cheap deal, too.

 

I'm not all that happy with Renfroe's D in RF, but his arm cancels out the errors, leaving his lack of range to create a slight minus on D. Keep Kike n CF to make up for the minus in RF.

Removing our best pitcher in 2021 (Eovaldi) after 5 innings was shocking to me and almost cost us the game. It all worked out in the end and Eovaldi missing out on a QS helped me win a my semi-final matchup in one of my fantasy leagues. Win Win for me. LOL!
