I’m surprised the bullpen has any arms left.

Going with 13-14 pitchers all year helps.

We've used 37 different pitchers, this year, including a few everyday players.

29 pitchers with 3+ IP.

23 pitchers with 5+ IP.

20 with 13+ IP

15 with 30+

even for a team like the Mets that have a very unreliable bullpen.

...and look how limiting their starter IP'd has helped them stay healthy!

He was saying Schwarber is not a fit, because JD is not opting out and he does not fit at 1B. He's not saying get rid of 3 players.

I posted the wrong comment. It was you, I think, who said either get rid of Schwarber or trade Verdugo, Devers, Dalbec ...? Was that simply rhetorical?

It does seem like having JD and Schwarber, at a very high financial cost, without playing them both FT doesn't make sense, so how do they both play while keeping Dalbec, Verdugo, Renfroe and Kike full time?

The only way is to play Kike at 2B nearly FT, which makes our D worse than it already is. (I never said trade Devers.)

If we bring back Schwarber and JD, it does make some sense to trade an OF'er or Dalbec to make room. That is not saying I want to do that, however.

As you may recall, I was one of the few defenders of Bloom/Cora's decision to keep extra pitchers on the active roster.

Trading Dalbec, who now looks pretty competent at 1b and is hitting well, makes no sense, especially given his age/retainability. The infield of Devers, Bogaerts, Iglesias/Arroyo, and Dalbec looks pretty solid to me--decent fielding, good hitting.

I just think Shwarber is a better bat than Verdugo and don't mind giving up some defense in LF. That said, Verdugo has been handy as the backup centerfielder and is younger and a lot less expensive than Schwarber. Yet again, Schwarber is 5 years younger than JDM and a good choice to take over at DH.

Lot of questions to be answered after the season. Schwaber Is only 28, and JD is 34, and only has 1 more year if he stays, which I think he will, so I don’t think they will pay Schwaber. Do you lockup Renfroe is another question, and you still have to worry what Bogey will do in a few years. That is a bigger question, and sooner, or later Devers has to be paid some big bucks.

I know. It's nice to see you admit it.

I'm Bobby Dee's biggest fan. I'm not for trading him. I meerly pointed out that keeping Schwarber, at such a high cost with JD, makes it look like we need to trade someone to make room.

Verdugo is worth much more to another team than to us on the bench.

Also, we could trade Renfroe and move Verdugo to RF or try to trade JD (with some cash).

Again, I'm not FOR this.

I'm now leaning towards not signing Schwarber, unless JD opts out for this very reason, and the money is needed to upgrade the staff and defense.

Bogey's opt out is after 2022, so that is right around the corner.

I don't think we like Schwarber that much to essentially sign him long term, but keep him on the bench for much of 2022.

If we sign Schwarber, we will MAKE ROOM for him, somehow- most likely a trade or position change for someone (please not Kike to 2B!)

I can create some elaborate matrix for finding Schwarber room in LF, 1B and DH while juggling others around, so they all play 80% or more of the games, but why?

We need pitching and defense- not another DH.

Well said.
