I realize this. Hope is not the same as thinking it will happen.

I do think there are some moderate deals that are not far-fetched, like signing Suzuki or McHugh or trading for a tanking team's salary issues, but I will not be surprised if we stick to the Wacha & Hill type deals for a while longer.

I'm still asking the question: what major signing has happened, this winter, that anybody wishes we paid that amount or more for that player's services?

I'm not seeing anything that looks like even being close to a no-brainer choice.

Maybe I need to adjust my FA value calculations. Maybe Bloom does.

I'm not pretending to be a wizard. I thought Price met the qualifications for a once in a long while all-in type of signing.

I'm content with knowing that Bloom knows more than I do, but that won't stop me from scratching my head till it bleeds, sometimes.

LOL!

What’s the holdup with Suzuki? Process, or decision? He must know where he wants to go by now.

I think Hill will most likely be out for an extended period. Pivetta was decent for a back of the rotation guy. I think Wacha is trash. An injury to Eovaldi or diminished stuff from Sale would doom this season.

Odd fact I just realized.

Rich Hill threw more IP in 2021 than Eduardo Rodriguez…

2nd most innings in his career, but two previous years did not total 100 innings combined.

That really only applies to 2019. 2020 wasn’t a IP surplus for anybody…

Sox are hoping for 1/2 year out of Hill plus 1/2 year out of Paxton = solid mid rotation guy.

I doubt we are done adding to our 40 man roster, but is the the bottom 10 on the current 40 man better than last year's pre-opening day 40 man roster (before players can be placed on the 60-day IL).

2022:

40. Potts

39. Rosario

38. Bazardo

37. A Davis (out of options)

36. Arauz

35. Valdez

34. Crawford

33. Downs

32. Sawamura

31. Plawecki/Wong/R Hernandez

2021

We had Cordero, Brice, Andriese and Marwin on the 26 man roster to open 2021.

I'm not sure of who we had on the 40 man, last March. With all the taxi squad crap, it was hard to keep track.

I figured he'd be one of the first to sign. I know he has a time limit expiring, soon.

True, but ERod had zero in 2020.

But, still...

2019-2021 IP totals:

256 Hill (119 ERA+)

361 ERod (114)

The holdup is he is seeing who makes the best offer. While most of us doubt agents and GMs made no communication during the lockout, that doesn’t mean everyone put their best deals on the table…

Sounds like last year's 1/2 season from Perez or Richards and 1/2 from Sale.

Talks must still be ongoing with someone(s).

Is Hill really the clear cut durability weakness in a rotation that has Wacha and Eovaldi?

He's meeting with a bunch of teams supposedly. He worked out with the Padres.

Last we heard his preference is a West Coast team.

I'd say Hill is a bigger health liability, sure.

Eovaldi has been remarkably healthy since joining the rotation mid Aug 2019 after being on the IL for much of that season and coming back in the pen for a while, first.

What has been the most exciting, at the time of the deal?

Kike?

Richards?

Extending Barnes?

Yikes!

He dumped Marwin. Or are we only counting acquisitions?

Ottavino, probably.

Would the Beni trade beat the Marwin DFA out?

No, Beni was a fairly popular player. People were not happy when he was dealt.

Or when the outfielder he was traded for replaced him in the outfield.

If Khalil Lee finds more success than the return BOS got, you can mark it down as a bad trade against Bloom.

The way Cora talked today it sounds like as it stands now Kike will start in CF, and JBJ in right. Of course any additions, or injuries could change that. Edited by Old Red

LBJ died in 1973. Hopefully there’s a Plan B…

Until game 2, when Arroyo goes to the IL.
