The current expectation is that Seabold will start and Pivetta should return this weekend.

@alexspeier

Fwiw, while Connor Seabold is on the taxi squad - and now almost sure to get a start in Chicago - Kutter Crawford remains scheduled to start tonight for the WooSox.

If Kutter Crawford starts for WOO tonight, Pivetta must be on the verge of coming back.

I believe the Jays make the WC; I have no idea who the other team will be.

The Jays gained 9 games on the Yankees in about 2 weeks. Incredible.

How will the season end for the Sox?

We will face TOR in the WC game. Then we are going to face TB and finally the CHW in the ALCS.

We are going to play the WS vs SFG. Once there anything can happen.

In!

I know, right? As the young folk say.

The young folk don't type the words out though. It's 'ikr' . Took me a while to figure it out. LOL

Yes, and we've seen other teams in this race go on a similar run. You are never as good as you are during a winning streak or as bad as you are during a losing streak.

^^This.

I brought this up yesterday. There is definitely a non zero chance that both teams miss the playoffs.

I very much believe that both WC teams will come from the AL East.

I still think it will be the Sox and the Yankees, though I would not be disappointed if it's the Sox and the Jays.

I would be because I think the Jays will absolutely mercy the Sox. But I don't cower at a Sox-Yanks WC, even in the Stadium, because I believe Eovaldi can shut them down. And I don't fear a Sox loss to NY, either; it's just not Sparta vs. Athens any more these days, and though both teams can be good, they're also kinda meh... albeit with better hopes for the future.

Did you know the Sox won the season series vs the Jays this year?

The Wild Card game isn't a series, though that match-up would feature a series of young Blue Jays running up to the plate, salivating to swing from the heels and model the same dirty jacket to pimp for the cameras. Boston's best hope would be to hit as many groundballs as possible to Bichette and hope he throws them into Lake Ontario -- even if they're playing at Fenway.

Yes, 10-9 with 2 one-run losses.

The Red Sox won the season series 10-9 despite being outscored 110-81 by the Blue Jays.

That's a Seattle-like run differential.:)

I actually agree that the Yankees would be an easier opponent for us than the Jays would be. On paper, the Jays have played far better than either the Sox or the Yankees have played.

That said, a loss to the Yankees in an elimination game would be much harder for me to take than a loss to the Jays. Anyone but the Yankees. At the same time, a win over the Yankees in an elimination game would be far more satisfying than a win over the Jays.

The Jays are the anti-Mariners.

I don't think the A's or the Mariners are quite as good as the three East teams. Of those three , the Yanks look the shakiest. The Jays look the strongest , but definitely have the toughest schedule. That could derail them. I still think the Sox have the clearest path to the wild card. And as we all know , from there anything can happen.

The Jays are exploding. 22 runs, today!

I'm not sure this is sustainable.

Maybe too much all at once.

I think they will have a rough patch like we did, and now the Yanks are having.

Maybe it's just hope.

Well, they have 6 games against the Rays over the next 2 weeks.

I'm glad they face them 6 of the next 9 games and not at the end of the season, like the Yanks do, when the Rays may be resting starters to set themselves up for the playoffs.

The Red Sox will make the play-in game then lose 7 players to COVID protocols and beat the Yankees with Kevin Plawecki getting the save.

Come on -- we have fun here, but this is no time for sarcasm. We all know Plawecki will blow the save.

I see a lot of posters saying well the Jay's play the Ray's 6 times coming and we have the O's coming. That's not going to change a thing. Jay's will still win at least half of those games while we still can't beat a +500 team nor can we sweep sub 500 teams

We've won 3 in a row and 4 in a row in the last 17 games, but no sweeps vs poor teams is an issue?

We did sweep the O's in mid AUG, and then after the Yanks swept us, we've done this:

2-1 TEX

2-1 MIN

2-1 @CLE

2-2 @TBR

2-1 CLE

1-2 TBR

1-2 @CWS

Yes, it sucks having to hope the Jays lose, but if they win, we can gain on the Yanks.

I will say, winning 2 of 3 from SEA would be huge but not easy.

Yes, the fact we have no sweeps aside from that ONE series is an issue as the Jay's keep winning and are 11-1 in their last 12 games

We just need to win a WC slot. We don't need to be WC1.

A while ago, the Yanks were the winning team that nobody thought would hit a tough patch.

I'm thinking the Jays are due for their rough patch, and these next few games might bring it about.

Let's see. We can win 2 out of 3 vs everyone and still pass the Jays. We can lose one series and win the rest and might pass the Jays.

Maybe not.

I like our schedule vs anyone else, so I'm staying positive,

After what has gone on, so far this season, why does anyone think teams will follow the pattern they've had over the last 2-3 weeks?

Time and time again, every team, except the Rays have looked great and then turned on a dime to look awful- and vice versa.
