I did. And not just September…
Most people weren’t as observant as iortiz and me that season. We saw that the team had only 2 viable starters (Beckett and Lester). The others weren’t even viable. Beckett and Lester were also fading by the end of August and pitched to 5+ ERAs in September.

The 2011 Sox had Beckett (2.89 ERA) and Lester (3.47 ERA)…

Lester’s ERA went from 2.93 to 3.47 his last 4 starts; he allowed 18 runs in 19 2/3 innings.

Beckett missed a turn in early September and his ERA went from 2.49 to 2.89 by allowing 15 runs in 18 1/3 innings in his last 3 games (and from 2.50 to 2.89 over the last 2 starts).

They had good seasons but sucked when it counted most.

Back then is when I first used the term “death spiral”. I also referred to “circling the drain” quite often. We did predict that collapse. No reinforcements were added at the end of August that year and like this season, 2011 Sox had no competent starters. They just needed to win 6 or 7 games that September, but they lost day after day and the losses were obvious by the 3rd or 4th inning each night. It was excruciating. This season will be less painful, because we probably will spiral out of contention before Labor Day.

Yeah, that year was brutal.

My hope are Sale and Houck. If they are not what Bloom thinks they are, then yes, we are done. Also I see ERod bit better, and while Eovaldi s*** the bed tonight, I think he won’t collapse like he did tonight. Also Shwarber and Arroyo are coming. They will likely spark this lineup. I also would go with Arauz, Muñoz, Cordero, Kevin and Duran. Marwin has to be DFAed and Dalbec has to go to minors.

Said that maybe I’ve been optimistic a bit and more than usual, but I still really think we have a very good team, but our engines are not sync right now. For instance I think we will split this series, and we’ll be strong again next week.

Everyone else noticed that this slide the Sox are in started when Cora decided to shuffle the lineup around? Don't fix what's not broken Cora ffs. The runs per game took a big dip since this. They probably would have a couple more wins if it wasn't for those changes. Offense was never really an issue and what does he do? Let's the change the lineup every night. Pitching has always been the been the problem and what do they do with that? Leave it the same until yesterday. The offense lineup should have stayed the same and the pitching is what should have been changed.

Cora didn't start shuffling the lineup until things went south. He moved Verdugo down because the guy was in a 3-month slump. We brought up Duran and Cora has tried him in different spots.

None of the changes he made were radical ones.

A week ago, I was in a dark place mentally, and I was starting to get sick. It was a slow spiral all summer that hit rock bottom last weekend.

This week has been the happiest week of my life. Mental recharge at work, and all of a sudden I feel so much closer to at least 3 people I work with. And I had the best first date of my life last night.

It's funny how the Red Sox had been so good while I was down and so bad now that I am doing well again. It's not the worst thing, I suppose. Helps me keep everything in perspective.

Don't see that girl again!

We need the reverse osmosis mojo working at full steam!

Seriously though, I'm glad for you. I hope things continue to improve.

They're professionals. It shouldn't matter when they come to the plate what 'spot' in the order they're hitting in or whether they got an extra day of rest.

We can't let our health be affected by a baseball team or anyone else for that matter , no matter how much we may like them. It is strictly a pastime for us and a lucrative living for them. Perspective is so important in life.

We're seeing each other again this afternoon, during game 1. Sorry in advance. Tried to balance out the mojo by starting the game thread

NESN broadcast team trying to pump the audience on the hope of a Sox comeback in this game. Little do they know that there are about 20 guys and a ham sandwich watching at this point.

Were you eating a ham sandwich at the time, because that would have been 2 ham sandwiches watching.

I am glad that you are in a good place. Also, you might consider breaking it off before the second date.... leave on a high note. Jk.
