Richards has the second most saves for the Sox since August 1. 2 saves, 1 hold, 0 blown saves.

Can he finish the season with more saves than wins?

I think people don't give Bloom enough credit.

Some people give him too much credit. Some people don't give him enough credit.

I think he gets the right amount of credit when you average it out.

Nah. Nobody gives him too much credit.

Just because I think Bloom deserves more credit, how good of a pickup did Schwarber end up being?

Not including the postseason, he has 161 wRC+ and 1.4 fWAR in 41 games with the Sox. Not to mention the intangible effect he has on the plate discipline of some of our other hitters.

Bloom was also bashed for not picking up pen help and then crucified when Robles and Davis struggled early on.

His post deadline additions of Iggy & Shaw were also masterful.

With the exception of a bad inning tonight all of Blooms deadline acquisitions have been great.

He also acquired these players for peanuts compared to what the opposition paid.

Chalk it up for another loss to the armchair instant gratification G.M.

...and Robles has been one our best RP'er through crunch time, until tonight.

You can’t argue with the results, but Robles and Davis stink.

If they do, Sale stinks a whole lot more. He did his level best to give away two crucial games.

Just lucky, that's all. :D

I'm darned if I can see any plate discipline by the Sox, but agree Schwarber has been a great asset.

Disagree.

Then you need to root like crazy for the Rays because Bloom's throw-together Sox, despite being weighed down paying for guys who are no longer on the team, look like they might--horror of horrors--get to the ALCS. Oh, and he hired Cora. And JH of course told him not not to cross the luxury tax line.

Some of the best results for the lowest price, imagine how these Sox would look if the armchair GMs ran this team? Or the real G.M.s acting in their image?

Man, we’d have a whole team of 38 year olds and a payroll of 300 million, no farm, and we’d be watching golf right now.

……and they’d be complaining about the GM still. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

They’re really the reason I come back and read the comments.

Dude goes 15 straight appearances without a run down the stretch and into the playoffs and he stinks. Lol, some people just want the Sox to suck so they can be right. Pathetic

^ This is asinine but not surprising. Robles is a journeyman bum. But he has been in one of the best stretches of his undistinguished journeyman career. It has come at a great time for the Red Sox. That being said, I still get very nervous when he takes the mound in a big situation, because I have seen too many times where he has come into a game and given up a string of 3 or more XBHs. Accusing me of wanting the Red Sox to lose is Jack assery pure and simple. But it is coming from a Jack ass, so it is predictable.

Right! So Bloom did nothing. Nothing except get a guy for peanuts who performed but it’s still a s*** move because people have feelings and get nervous. Lol you can’t make this s*** up.

I don’t care what a guy has done in his career I care what he’s going to do down the stretch. Isn’t that what this all about?

Wasn’t that the battle cry back in July? Screw the farm, screw the money, screw the future, we want to WIN now. So a GM makes a calculated move to buy low ok a guy with a shaky career who he identifies as someone who will be better down the stretch and the move 100% pays off and we’re still complaining?

We didn’t make the moves the Bluejays made but here we are in the playoffs and they’re sitting on the couch.

We didn’t make the moves the Yankees made, but here we are still in after being THE TEAM that knocked them out of it.

We didn’t make the move TB did, but here we are 1 game away from reaching the ALCS and up on them.

When are people going to stop their crying and just admit they were wrong like real men. It’s ok. This is a safe place.

And he is not a big name. A lot of people were mad at Bloom's rather mundane deadline acquisitions. Many even said he "ruined the season" of a team that they predicted would win 70 games in the first place and is now one game away from the ALCS.

The Red Sox going 12-16 in August didn't help matters.

You could even say that as late as September 30 the Red Sox looked like toast, after getting swept 3 by the Yanks and then losing 2 of 3 to Baltimore.

The fact that it's a crazy damn game helps!

But all in all, I don't see how anyone can say Bloom hasn't done a great job this year.

And if you told a lot of people in March that the Sox would go 12-16 in August, the typical response would have been along the lines of “so it’ll be their best month” or “too little too late.”

The real bottom line is he clearly doesn’t obey the same rules of talent evaluation and roster construction as the rest of us, but whatever he does can certainly work. Possibly better than what we’re used to…

Don't expect any admissions of being wrong from 700-just personal attacks after attacks on his positions.

BTW, Robles has had a few very nice stretches in his career. This may be surprising, but it's not some sort of voodoo magic.

Yes, Robles has had some nice stretches in his career. But Bloom was also ripped for passing on Cole Hamels and Dave Robertson. Hamels was injured before the ink dried on his new contract and Robles actually out-pitched Robertson. (Robles: 3.60 ERA/3.36 FIP for Boston, Robertson: 4.50 ERA/3.67 FIP for Tampa).

But hey, those guys are bigger names and would have been awesome additions. To the 2011 team...

Throw in Robertson's ALDS numbers and he's done pretty well. Can't really fault the Rays for that pickup. Which doesn't alter the fact that Robles has also been a good one.

Robertson has worked out, but I can hardly fault the Sox for avoiding 36yo relief pitcher who has totaled six innings since 2018,,,
