Unless another team makes a more attractive offer.

I don't see the Sox getting into a bidding war for Gray, but sure.

R Hernandez alone SHOULD be enough to get Gray.

The Tigers are high on Dingler and have been ever since they invested 2 million in him. I have him at 22 years old, not 23, and he is hitting for power at AA. His BA AVG was better a few weeks ago, but has now dropped to .255. He still has 10 HR in a little over 200 at bats. The Tigers like his defense too.

He’s high on their prospect list but he isn’t so much of a prospect that they would completely forego everyone else who played the position. The Tigers do understand that prospects bust, and the ONLY protection against that is more prospects.

You’re right he’s 22, but he turns 23 in like 7 weeks…

I can see why some posters are not high on Downs, but he is still one of our best prospects. One not so good Hal season is not reason enough to trade a top prospect for a decent rental.

Plus, it’s not going to happen. Zero chance. Nada.

Let's say the Red Sox decide against trading for a starting pitcher and pursue the best possible relief arm instead.

How about Jimenez, Winckowski, and Feltman for Kimbrel? I was going through the Cubs roster and farm system, they are a little thin in the OF, which is why I included Jimenez.

Interestingly, if the Red Sox acquire Kimbrel they could, in turn, trade Kimbrel in the offseason for a decent prospect.

We are going into a very meaningful 7 game stretch and are approaching the trade deadline. It would be important to complete a trade now to shore up the roster. With Santana down and Arroyo out for at least 7 more days, we are reliant on Chavis, Dalbec and possibly Cordero and a rookie Duran. We also have Verdugo struggling and Bogie working with a sore wrist. Having a solid first baseman would help right now. Also another relief arm now would take some of the pressure off our top arms, who will no doubt be used during this next stretch. Bloom, t he time to act is now.

The problem with acting now is it takes turn teams to trade.

Tans in selling mode often like to wait out best offers. So if a team wants to act early, they often have to overpay…

There is some truth in the idea that sellers want to give enough time to see all the offers that will be put on the table. There is also a line of thinking that says buying teams investigating options may consider several and be willing to take one of those. Once taken, the offers to the other teams must be withdrawn. Otherwise there is a risk to the seller of losing an opportunity if they drag it out too long.

Rays are apparently close to trading for Nelson Cruz. No word on what they're giving up, and not confirmed yet. But looks like they're actually going to be buyers for once.

The Rays got him in a 4 team deal. We need to be active as well.

1. Too costly.

2. Not much of an upgrade.

No inside info needed to say no. (Actually, don't even answer the phone call on Rizz.)

They need a bat. They need an starter too, out Sale could fill that role and Houck could also help in that regard.

Houck has great stuff and could be a meaningful starter going forward. He does need to get his stuff over more to last more than 5 innings and the announcers mentioned he throws his warmup pitches every inning at full velocity, which further shortens his stay. Like a lot of less experienced pitchers, he has to pitch instead of just throw. He could be a #2 starter on the team if he makes that jump.
