The Yankees were favored to win the division and perhaps run away with it. Right now they look like a team with a lot of issues. It's early, of course.

It's way early, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it in the moment. :)

Absolutely. Most people would have imagined the Yankees-Rays series as the biggest series of the weekend in the AL East, but there's actually a game in Baltimore tonight that will decide first place in the AL East

At least Judge is back today. We'll see how long before he is mysteriously out of the lineup for another week

That's the spirit!

Over/under?

I was texting a friend of mine during Judge’s last game and we both noticed he was tenuous in the OF and very slow on the base paths. Both of us said he looked like he was either injured or protecting himself from injury

It’s a little early to make judgements. My bet is the velo ticks up as the season goes on, but definitely a concern with him sitting right below 90. I didn’t get to watch today’s game. But I did watch the last one. The movement on his pitches is pretty sick. But if he cannot control it, he will struggle.

Funny how you say once velocity is lost it can’t come back about Sox pitchers.

BTW, I wasn’t trying to be cute about velo, but it is almost all you talk about with Sox pitchers with injury histories.

With all the talk about Domingo German's domestic violence suspension , a couple of things are forgotten : 1 - He is not exactly a kid. He turns 29 in August . 2 - He really isn't all that good anyway . A career ERA of 4.6 . Sometimes guys get so much ink that people tend to overrate their ability. This guy is nothing much.

Our starter went four innings today so at least that's an improvement. Maybe we can have German, Kluber, and Taillon all pitch on the same day in order to save the bullpen.

Rough start to the season, but you guys will be back.

I do think that like all of us, your eyes got too wide in the spring time.

Sale has not even come back yet and you're already talking about his lot velocity that is clearly gone forever...

Yankee fans are very down on Cashman these days. They think his team construction strategy has been atrocious. As in, the all or nothing offensive approach. The bad defense. And fail moves like Bruce.

Sure looks different than Houck being sent to our alt site.

Houck was akin to King being sent out. I said before that German was going to either be dominant or horrible and nothing in between. He was horrible. Not unrecoverable performance wise, but terrible. Couple that with his toxicity and my bet is they felt the bump in team chemistry was worth it. King and Garcia can be better than the s*** he showed in starts 1 and 2. If King and Garcia show well, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up dealt to a down and out team looking to recover value

Other than domestic violence, is there anything else that makes him toxic in the clubhouse?

First place Boston Red Sox.

Has a nice ring to it.

Being a team that is supposed to dominate the division carries a lot of expectations and pressure with it. As you said, the Yankees will be back, but it might not be as easy a ride as they were expecting.

They have had a lot of players out, but that seems to be their MO over the past few years.

What did Cashman do about that?

He signs and acquires guys like Paxton, Kluber, Taillon and big beefy guys, so muscle bound, they slip in a the shower and pull something.

The thing we heard all winter, though was how deep and powerful their bench and farm are. It's early yet, and I wish the Sox had some of the Yankee young players, but they better start doing something, of this could get real ugly in the big apple.

Not only does Cashman stink at building a starting staff, a problem he has had for a really long time--it defines him as a GM--but he didn't do enough to fix the offense. The Yankees offense is too right-handed heavy, with big strikeout guys, making for a streaky lineup. Sure, at times the Yankees will bludgeon teams to death, they have a big payroll after all, but the lineup will continue to disappoint overall. With the dummy Steinbrenner kids running the organization, Boone will probably take the fall and blame for Cashman's mess.

Moreover, how long do you want a GM to run an organization? Cashman has been with the Yankees forever and the organization is stagnant and stale. They need a fresh perspective. It is hard to overlook the fact that Cashman has spent more money than any other organization over the last 10 years and doesn't have a single World Series appearance to show for it. What kind of dipshit do you have to be to have the Yankees resources at your disposal and go 10 years without a World Series appearance? Baseball isn't that complicated.

What's really shocking is the Yankees team OPS of .682 through 8 games, highlighted by a feeble SLG of .366.

Supposedly the baseballs are deader this year, and that's not great for a team whose offense is built on the long ball.

(I'm heaping it on, I know.)

Well, German’s numbers look a little better if he doesn’t give up a 2 run infield single highlighted by apathetic defense...

Really the only bad mistake German made was a hanger to Arozarena for a solo HR. The other HR by Meadows was off a low change up that hit the bottom of the foul pole. The other two runs were from bad luck and bad defense. He looked better than his first start.

I agree with everything, here, but the first thing a new GM would do is fire Boone, who by the way, deserves it, too.
