Just glad to see the Rays in the World Series. With that budget, they've done some amazing things. Glad we have one of their architects.

That's how I see it.

Whenever I don't really care about either team in a playoff series, I almost always root for the underdog or team that "deserves it" most. Lately,I've been rooting more for the local teams, here in Houston, but not these bunch of cheating SOB's!

Personally, I always give extra credit to any team that knocks out the Yankees. :)

I wonder how Cash would have been thought of if Morton's reliever had blown it and the Rays had lost the game? At the time of the move, with Morton pitching so well, I thought Cash is making a move that could lose the game. Lucky for him it didn't but the relievers were not that solid, especially finding the strike zone.

Probably not thought of well, but undeservedly does. As Dallas Green once said when asked the difference between a good manager and a bad manager, replied “a good bullpen.”

Cash has a good bullpen and needs to balance not overusing them with not overusing his starters as he enters yet another long series with no off days...

It was the second game in a row Cash hooked his starter earlier than some managers would have. But as he said, that's what they've been doing all along. He seems like a good manager to me, but there will always be second-guessing.

I thought it was a vary ballsy move by Dave Roberts calling on the recently-struggling Jansen with the season (and maybe his job) on the line.

Yanking a starter who has excellent command for a hard thrower from the BP is risky since there is no way to tell if the replacement will get the ball over. Later in the game two Rays relievers walked players and put the game at risk. It's a tough decision and one that can and almost did backfire.

@SoxProspects

Red Sox have announced that RHP Domingo Tapia was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Mariners.

With seven players coming off the 45/60-day IL after the World Series, expect more roster moves of this sort (clearing out being claimed off waivers) over the next week.

It has begun.

I expect we may be claiming a few players, here and there, too.

We might end up cutting ties with Pedey, too.

I wonder if ownership will be hesitant to make that move as they don't want another black eye. Maybe they reach out and try to get him to retire, but pay him in some other way? IDK.

Tapia throws very hard , but he has never really had the success that you would like to see . No longer a kid either.

As I've mentioned before, our roster is so "shallow" I don't see a roster crunch, right now or at Rule 5 time. Only after we start signing multiple free agents will a choice like this have to be made.

He has a lot of that in common with Nick Anderson. Of course, he has more of it in common with Robert Stock...

Tapia wasn't the first guy I expected us to let go, but those bottom 16-18 guys are pretty bunched up.

I heard the original plan was to release them all in front of the bulls in Pamplona, but, damnit, pandemic...

Seattle apparently prefers Domingo Tapia to Art Warren, Carl Edwards Jr., Nestor Cortes Jr. and Matt Magill, relievers whom the Mariners recently released.

Is our farm system really that awful? Looks like we have some high ceiling kids on this list....Bloom already has made some shrewd moves to bolster our farm

The Sox farm has improved under Bloom. Some other farms have tanked around them. Bloom has likely brought boston from 29 into the 22-25 range. With boston choosing 4th in May, he should be able to bring the Sox into the 10-15 range

What does Yankees must do in 2021 to get to the World Series? Any newcomers in horizon (not FA)? How long will the Rays last? Can they repeat what they did in 2020? Did the short season help the Rays more than the Yankees?

Just curious....

They may need to do what DD did- go all out for one ring, instead of trying to be almost good enough, every year.

Yes, the playoffs are a crap shoot, and the Yanks came very close to going to the WS, this year, but when does "not close enough" become a burden that needs an immediate and full throttle effort to get over the hump?

Yankee fans must be scratching their heads if not pissing all over Yankee management.

Officially I'm not counting on Sox being competitive until 2022. I just don't see it. It'd be like drawing an inside straight with Ace, 3, 5.

If we suck by the deadline, we may be able to improve the farm by trading away a few more pieces- FAs-to-be, including some we haven't even signed yet- like the Pillar & Moreland deals we made this past summer.

If we can get to 10-15 by this time, next year, I'd be very happy.

Another thing to look at is the estimated time of arrivals for our top prospects. I know age is not everything, but here's how it looks, now, according to soxprospects.com's rankings:

Age Group: (Total #top 10/top 20) Rankings of player in that age group

17-19: (0/ 4) 0/ 13. Yorke, 14. Lugo, 16. Jordan, 17. Ramirez

20-21: (3/ 5) 1. Casas, 3. Mata, 7. Jimenez/ 11. Rosario, 15. Potts

22-23: (4/ 6) 2. Downs, 5. Song, 8. Groome, 9. Ward/ 18. Murphy, 20. Wallace

24-25: (3/ 5) 4. Duran, 6. Dalbec, 10. Houck/ 12. Seabold, 19. Wong

26+: (0/ 0) None

Youngest non-prospect players:

22: Arauz

24: Devers, Verdugo, DHern

25: Dalbec, Chavis, Arroyo, Munoz

Which begs the question: should we make all our plans on 2022 and beyond, sometimes to the detriment of the 2021's team?

A high percentage of the fans on the Yankee forum I follow think Cashman and Boone should both be gone.

They point out that the Yankees have only been in one World Series in the last 17 seasons, while outspending everyone.

And they think Hal doesn't care about the rings, only the money.

For me the biggest question mark is what to do with E Rod.....can we get something for him this winter? Or hope he's back to 'normal' in 2021 and trade him at deadline?

If we are shooting for 2022, only way he's a Sox will cost us. Not sure if I want that with some young arms coming up by then.

I'm encouraged by both the Moreland trade and the Workman/Hembree trade.

Yeah, there's big market money and then there's Yankees money. Even without a ring, Hal wakes up every morning and realizes how lucky he is....
