Ok, but this year, the list of Travis Shaw Things includes “post an OPS+ of 66” and “get released from a contender”….

These are the Travis Shaw things I'm expecting, but I guess you never know?

Now he is on the active roster and Cordero is sent down. That should tell us what they think of Cordero.

He's had no extra base hits since coming back from AAA. We need more right now.

@alexspeier

Cora on Shaw: ‘It gives us a veteran at-bat off the bench…It’s a more experienced at-bat than Franchy.’ Sox also like the way Shaw controls the strike zone. ‘It makes us a more complete unit.’

Yes, Cordero needs to play everyday, and he ain't getting that here.

We could say the same thing about Duran.

More than Cordero.

Yes, Cordero played once against BAL. Duran played twice against BAL. We have solved the mystery.

We could also guess that with Duran ahead of Cordero on the OF depth chart and Schwarber moving ahead of Cordero on the 1B depth chart, going forward, Duran would be more likely to play more often.

We all knew Sale, Arroyo and Houck were returning, but the urgency and impatience dominated many opinions on this board. Plus, watching nearly every other top contender add more than a Schwarber just added fuel to a fire already raging in many Sox fans' minds.

Bloom stood his ground. I don't think he lied or misled anyone by saying he was looking to make some serious additions. I think he set a cost of return and did not cross it, or he did not even have the right pieces for some of the better of the best that were traded.

I think adding Sale, Schwarber, Arroyo, Houck and others looks as good as just about anyone else's add ons.

The timing of the Red Sox' current free fall is really bad. Of course it seems like making a big splash at the deadline or failure to do so is the reason behind the way the month of August has gone. This is the same team that looked so great up until the ASB. If the team is so fragile that their inability to win is based on this, then they were never really that good a team to begin with. Getting someone like Rizzo would not have made the difference.

If Cora cannot get this team turned around from their adversity, then maybe it's time for me to rethink my opinion of Cora's positive impact on the team.

Kimmi, if the free fall began a few weeks before the deadline, would you have been fine with Bloom standing pat?

Maybe she'd want us to be sellers.

I'd be fine with that.

My preference in retrospect:

buyers > sellers > nothing

They chose the least desirable option.

But we did something.

We were buyers.

The pen acquisitions were lateral moves. They added a LHB who plays LF. They already had one of those.

They were NOT buyers.

Well, we did acquire a hitter who is still among the top ten in NL home runs despite not playing for an NL team for the last 7 weeks…

moon: going to the store to buy dinner!

moon's family: ok.

moon: I'm back with one bag of takis!

moon's family: uh? What about dinner?

moon: I bought it.

moon's family: where? Is it behind the takis?

moon: no, it is the takis. you should be happy now.

How many HR's will he get in the AL? Zero for the past 3 weeks. Not good!

I think that’s because of his weird diet. Apparently he eats nothing but Takis…

Bro, I live in the Dominican Republic. Just be amazed at my superior knowledge of the english language. Expecting me to keep up with pop culture references from when I didn't even know english yet may be asking for too much outta me.

No worries. I've been a native speaker for over 70 years and I have no clue who Norm Crosby is nor will I feel bad when anyone attempts to correct that ignorance.

Yes. It's not like Bloom spent the weeks leading up to the deadline doing nothing. IMO, he looked into every possible deal that made any sense under his constraints. And I'm fine with his constraints of not trading away top prospects or exceeding the luxury tax limit.

Fair enough.
