Some of you guys (moon, notin, Larry Cook) would trade your next of kin and a pet dog to be named later, if it improved the Sox future outlook.

LOL

I am on the other end of the spectrum, I suppose. I get too emotionally invested in our players and don't want to trade anyone.

Oddly enough, I was completely on board with trading Mookie. Trading Moreland bothers me more than trading Mookie.

I'm the same. Guys like moon and notin have wheeler-dealer heads and hearts of stone.

(Just having a little fun at their expense.:))

MLB.com predicts a Bogaerts to Twins trade for Polanco and top prospect Lewis, another ss (neither can pitch). These are the type of rumors that radical posters on forums muse, just a trade for the sake of a trade -- "oh, we get more years, at cheaper cost"... you know, like small market clubs might say.

Stop.

FTR, I am 100% against trading Bogaerts. It makes no sense to trade one of the best shortstops in the game when we have him on a reasonable contract. In other words, we already have the great value player in Bogaerts.

I could not be a GM.

Trading Bogaerts would make me sick.

Actually I just like baseball talk.

If I was actually the GM, I’d overthink every trade until after the deadlines all passed...

I'm afraid that $3 million option will look pretty nice to the Padres.

The counter argument is the Padres fo have $81mill over the next 5 years tied up in another player who plays the same position...

Yeah, I understood the logistics behind trading Mookie, but it hurt me more when he signed the extension with LA. I was holding on to hope that we would get him back one day. I'm bothered by the Moreland deal as well, because it feels like the end of an era. But, I also understand the logistics behind that deal as well

You lose the whole concept of team when you trade away the key players, especially when it is not forced by circumstances, as was the case with Mookie. I too would have liked to see Moreland with us through the 2021 season but perhaps the trade at least makes some sense. Trading Bogaerts or Devers or Vaz would be steps too far.

The name of the game is to rebuild the team around the core and to greatly strengthen the prospect list. Verdugo is the only player added so far that has made the team while the others are part of the prospect list.

I predict we will still see Bradley and Barnes lost today, so it will be difficult enough to find a familiar face.

The countdown is on . Usually the deadline passes with fewer than expected deals made . Maybe a couple of surprises that were not rumored . Remember , no waiver deals allowed after the deadline this year .

The Mets’ deadline wish list includes a catcher and pitching (both starting and relieving) help, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman tweets. Perhaps in a related item, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal writes that the Red Sox have been “doing background on Mets minor leaguers,” which could hint at a potential trade. Rosenthal figures Christian Vazquez would be a natural fit to address the Mets’ catching needs, and we’ve already heard that the Sox have discussed Vazquez with the Rays in recent days. Speculatively, such Red Sox hurlers as Martin Perez, Matt Barnes, or Ryan Brasier could potentially be on the Mets’ radar, though the Sox just lost potential trade chip Nathan Eovaldi to the injured list.

Can't say I know much about the Mets prospects.

"Mets prospects" is an oxymoron

Looks like they only have one decent catching prospect (Alvarez). Hard to see the Mets moving him for Vazquez though. Maybe the Sox are just going to send them pitching? Looks like the majority of the Mets prospects are position players, so I'm not sure they'd be dealing pitching prospects for Vaz either.

They usually have good prospects. The major league team is just run like a s*** show.

Mitch will be DH'ing.

Something to be thankful for.

They have used a few pitching arms like Peterson this year. Positionwise their top guy is Ronny Mauricio, a 19yo SS in A ball. Nothing in their farm really dazzles me.

Tampa does have a few intriguing arms like Shane Baz (BA #71), Brent Honeywell (BA #80, but who gets hurt a lot), Joe Ryan (BA #98), and Trevor Richards (whom Bloom acquired last year at the deadline along with Nick Anderson). Overall I'd rather deal with Tampa here. but ultimately with only about 7 hours to go, I have my doubts Vazquez goes anywhere...

Trading a catcher like Vaz seems more like an offseason move IMO. Only having a month for Vaz to learn a pitching staff before the playoffs is not ideal.

So if the NL DH goes away next year (50/50 chance?), Mitch will be a FA again.

Yeah, I forgot that there may be no DH in the NL next year.

So with about 7 hours to go, is Bloom done or can he negotiate any more deals?

Top candidates to be dealt are Barnes, Perez, Vazquez, Bradley and Pillar.

Any thoughts on who if anyone goes?

I think he can move one outfielder (either one) and maybe Barnes. But that's probably about it. Unless someone offers him a deal too good to pass up, I doubt he moves Vazquez, his most valuable chip among these five names...

A Gold Glove 1b at DH?

Hosmer is not a good 1B from what I remember.

That Hosmer contract is garbage too. Yuck.

It is garbage, but it will be their garbage going forward...

There's always room to move some bullpen guys (Barnes and Brasier). I don't think JD or JBJ are going anywhere. Maybe they spin Pillar off for cheap as a 4th OF to someone? I don't see them moving Peraza. I guess they are looking at dealing Vaz, but I think he'll be here tomorrow. Maybe Perez gets moved, but I doubt it. Eovaldi stays for sure.

Does Pillar have more value due to positional versatility? Hard to see a team wanting to bring JBJ on as a backup.

True in a sense that the other 3 are all controlled for next season. If 2021 goes South by the deadline, all can be dealt then.

However, if the Sox want better prospects back, those are the worst two trading chips.

There are pros and cons everywhere...

I would argue he does not have any more versatility. Bradley can handle LF and RF and probably does as well or better than Pillar. He certainly has a better arm, which gives him an advantage over Pillar in RF.

Pillar does have an advantage in that he is substantially cheaper...
