If $5 million for each of 2 years was good for Beni, then JBJr could draw that much too. However, for him to take a short term , 50% 2020 AAV deal, his pride may get in the way. It may come down to how much does he want to play in Boston, or perhaps a specific elsewhere. For example, could he go to NYY to replace the aging Gardner, and get a richer deal than he may have earned in Boston ?

It is really hard to judge how much teams are going to spend this offseason. IMO, Jackie would likely get an offer of greater than what is being proposed on this site. Maybe even from the Sox, though I would be surprised if any offer comes close to $11 million. It's hard to know if he would be willing to take slightly less money to stay in Boston. I just hope he stays.

That could be.

I guess there is the whole integrity thing that I posted about before. For the sake of the game, the Sox need to try to field the best team and continue to play hard every game.

Yes. I mean, we could sit Devers for the rest of the season so he doesn't get hurt. Other teams that are out of it could do the same. Wouldn't be good for the game.

I can agree with this.

IDK, if you have a guy as soft as tissue paper, it doesn't make sense to bring him back from injury this year. Maybe you only have him pitch 2-3 innings per appearance?

I think the opposite: like Mookie (said for years), JBJ is looking forward to free agency, and it would take more money to keep him in Boston. I doubt he'd even take less to play for a contender; he's never hurt and could be hoping to play another decade. If Boras thinks the market will rebound post-Covid, Bradley may settle for a one-year change-of-scenery deal in the best interests of earning a longterm contract in the future.

Casas... I just have a feeling this guy develops into a hitter and not just an all-or-nothing modern hacker (they probably said that about Lars Anderson, too, but he wasn't a monster that hit moon shots while still growing in the minors; then again, we didn't have cell phone video of every batting practice/sim game back then).

.

At age 19, Lars Anderson posted a .828 OPS in 533 plate appearances in A ball and a .975 OPS is 47 PA in High A-ball

At age 19, Triston Casas posted an .820 OPS in 493 PA in A ball and a 1.429 OPS in 14 PA in high A ball.

Very similar, especially since Casas High A resume is built on so few plate appearances (and two of his 3 hits went for extra bases, including 1 HR)...

Anderson debuted in MLB 3 years later, but was a complete flop.

This doesn't mean Casas will be a dud like Anderson, but it might give some semblance of his timeline...

@PeteAbe

#RedSox returned catcher Deivy Grullón to the taxi squad after he was the extra player in Tuesday’s doubleheader. Backup catcher Kevin Plawecki, who didn’t play Tuesday because of a bruised hand, is expected to be available on Thursday.

Anderson was on track to the bigs through his second season in 2008, but after 2009 it was a freefall. He probably shouldn't have even appeared for the Sox in 2010. If 2009 continued to show improvement, he could have debuted then (it took an extra year because of his decreased production).

That would be equivalent to 2021 for a Casas timeline, which makes sense to me. I bet he starts 2021 in AA and he could get promoted quickly if he hits like Beni or Devers did in AA.

@BillKoch25

Per @JoshMaurerRadio and @TheRadioMike

, several players from the alternate site are with the #RedSox taxi squad on their current road trip. Dylan Covey, Domingo Tapia, Tanner Houck, Cesar Puello all among them.

@redsoxstats

Wonder if Houck could start on regular rest Saturday.

Well, that was my initial thought. And if the Sox in any way have to bring him back before he is ready, then don't do it.

OTOH, if he is indeed healthy and ready to go, I think it would be kind of unprofessional to shut him down. Yes, they could limit his outings to a few innings each time.

You may be right about all of that. I really have no idea what Jackie is thinking.

If the Sox were willing to pay JBJ what he got this year, we may be the top bidders next year, too.

He's not making $11M/1 anywhere. I doubt he makes more than $7M1, $12M/2 or $15M/3.

I like 3 x5 for JBJ but like where you’re going with it .

I've been JBJ's biggest fan since before he was even called up, but I'm not sure he'll be the best option going forward, even at $10M/2 or $15M/3.

You are also not sure he won't be the best option. Someone in Red Sox management, or perhaps a team will have to consider the options and take a guess and then live with it.

It does depends on their faith in Jarren Duran at some point.

I would think a one year stopgap (with a team option?) in CF should suffice...

5M AAV is fine for a 4th OFer.

@SPChrisHatfield

The Red Sox transactions page shows Jose Peraza as being optioned to the ATS yesterday. No announcement otherwise.

Interesting move in what seems to be a last ditch effort to see if there's anything there. Currently looking like he'll be non-tendered this offseason.

@PeteAbe

Seems odd the Red Sox didn't just release Jose Peraza instead of optioning him to the alternative site.

Could get a prospect two weeks of work with the coaches there. More upside to that than keeping around a player who will almost surely be non-tendered.

Currently unknown who is taking Peraza's place on the roster.

@ChrisCotillo

Pablo Sandoval is being DFA'd by the Giants (per

@JonHeyman

) and no, the Red Sox aren't signing him.

@RedSox

The #RedSox today announced the following roster moves:

INF José Peraza was optioned to the Alternate Training Site following Tuesday’s games against the Phillies.

RHP Austin Brice today was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 9) with a right lat strain.

The Sox would pay for him not to return to Boston -- wait, aren't they already doing that?

So if they sign him, he has to pay it back...

Corresponding moves were to recall Dylan Covey and Robert Stock (twitter rejoices).

“Yeah!! Dylan Covey!” said no one ever...

@RedSox

The #RedSox today added INF Nick Yorke to their Club Player Pool. RHP Colten Brewer, who remains on the 45-day injured list, was removed from the Club Player Pool.

The Club Player Pool is at 59.

@IanCundall

Wasn’t sure they’d fill the spot given there’s only a few weeks left, but will be great experience for Yorke. I wonder if part of the reasoning is to start to get him ramped back up before the Fall Instructional League since his high school season was cut short.
