Springs has sprung ... a leak! A 2 run and 3 run bomb in the first inning. Next!

Eh. Probably more runs than the Rangers will get out of Sam Travis..

XB with game action today and JD with his own 3 run bomb. Some good news.

Wind is blowing out. A lot of dingers today. Hembree looked like he was throwing BP.

That is how he looked his last timeout.

He's 31 this year and has little upside. DFA candidate IMO. If they keep him around, it's just because he's cheap.

Or, more likely, because they aren’t exactly loaded with better options...

The have a 40 man roster with guys that are younger and have higher upside. Since they won't compete this year, no reason to keep Hembree around except for him being cheap.

I am at the game and they don't have any other options, at least none that have appeared in this game. I know it is still early on ST but I don't see much fire in any one like I've seen in the last few years.

Darwin is the only one who hits anywhere on that scale... and he's might had a touch of atomic in him... we need more suicide rating relievers

That's ok, I heard a small piece of a broadcast last week where Porcello (Mets) pitched to Ryan Lavarnway (Marlins) who promptly grounded to Eduardo Nunez (Mets).

Quick take-away's from Wednesday's game:

JDM has been off to a very slow start this year but don't be fooled by his numbers. As a700 & I discussed, he's obviously been working to go the other way without the HR power and it's still a work on progress. Yesterday he hit is first HR - a real towering shot to LCF and followed it up with another hit, also to the left side. Maybe he got tired of making outs? :-)

What Springs did may not be a record but it's not something to be proud of. IIRC he gave up 5 runs using only 8 pitches to do it. I spoke to him while he was stretching (in fairness he didn't reply but he acknowledged my comment) and encouraged him to have a good outing because "We need a 'W' out there today". That's probably not something I'll do again. LOL

OTOH, Ryan Brazier used only 8 pitches to get through an entire inning!

Heath Hembree has looked pathetic both times I've seen him pitch but since it's only ST he may be 'working on something'. I hope.

I learned why bringing up Castillo isn't a good idea. He may have to play defense and he got completely fooled on a tailing line drive off a RHH. He first went the wrong way, the tried to go back, stumbled and fell down while diving to try to get back, letting the ball get by him.

B-R has JBJ with only one HR but I'm sure I've seen two off his bats, one to RCF and another to LCF. He's consistently going to the left side now with his hitting which is something he needs to do to be successful. A good sign.

Don't be too disheartened by the score of Wednesday's game. The Sox were trailing by only 2 runs late when two of the-players-you've-never-heard-of-and-never-will-again committed two errors on the same routine play opening the floodgates. Getting that third out would have ended the inning.

I'll be back with more sidelights soon. Where else can you get crap like this? :D

Nice post Dewey.

BTW the MLB box score showed it was JBJ's second homer, B-R just hasn't updated yet.

There have been people on here saying that he has GG level defense and wouldn't be a huge drop off from JBJ or Mookie. I've always been skeptical about that. He's a guy who doesn't hit for power and is an average fielder. I think you can do better than him for your 4th OFer.

Benintendi is working in RF today. He was asked if he remembers the last time he played there.

"Never."

Rice-a-roenicke doesnt yet know that Beni has a noodle arm? or did he forget that Fenway has the biggest square foot RF in the history of baseball????

It’s spring training. They could put Benintendi on the mound and it wouldn’t mean anything.

Maybe they should trot Dalbec out there. Didn’t he pitch in college?

He’s looked good in the field before, but he has a tendency to injure himself with his reckless style...

i agree with everything you just said. which is way i am triggered that JDM has not done any 1b work. quite honestly i dont care if we have seven players in the system at 1b. JDM should be working on it in ST......

Hector Velasquez DFAd to make room. Not sure why Chris Mazza and Jeffrey Springs we’re spared here...

Because the Sox have more first basemen than outfielders? Or it’s closer than it should be.

I would've liked the Yanks to take a flyer on him. But I imagine Boston was the only team to outright offer him a major league deal, which makes sense in their case with Sale down and a couple of holes in the rotation.

he already knows how to not play OF well though.... we need him to learn how to not play 1b well.... ‾\_(ツ)_/‾
