In July the Trade simulator will accept a Picture of Walt Alston, for Mookie. They will just wait it out. That team is in no rush to make any Trade.

I'm not sure why you insist on putting Workman and Barnes in these trade possibilities. There's not been even the smallest mention they are going in any trade. It's not going to be a 4/5 man trade on each side. No matter how much you ask the trade simulator. Eovaldi has been mentioned little more.

Betts, Eovaldi, Barnes & Workman

for

Pollock, Kelly, May, Gonsolin & Cartaya

1. Why Pollock? The major reason to offload Eovaldi is he is hurt all the time. For that reason, Pollock is not the answer.

2. Don’t lose sight of the fact that the only reason the Sox are considering trading Betts is to reset. They don’t need to sell off the rest of the team and go into a full blown rebuild. I’m sure the Sox are hoping they can lure Betts back after 2020, but it would probably help a little if there was still a team left to come back to...

moon doesn't like any trade ideas that have less than 7 names involved.

If the Dodgers offered May in any deal, I think you take it and run, but I doubt he's on the table here.

Some rumors have it the my reason these talks are still going on is Bloom not insisting on May or Lux.

Side note - wasn’t MayLux a brand of washing machine or something back in the 70’s? Not actually relevant here but it’s got me curious...

A staredown between the master Friedman and the apprentice Bloom?

Anybody think maybe the Sox FO leaked Mookie's $420 mill ask to make fans more accepting of the trade?

Yeah, I think almost certainly.

I like that Bloom is holding out. There seems to be this fake deadline being bandied about because ST is a couple of weeks ago. But he can make Padres and Dodgers sweat it out for a lot longer, yet.

1million percent

it is also no coincidence the 10/$300MM was leaked as well.

"we made a fair offer but Mookie is greedy"

Buster Onley tweeted his hypothetical Dodgers lineup if they get Betts. It's notable that Verdugo is not in it:

... for conspiracy theorists (and I'm gullible), the crappy SD rumors could be a way of setting fans up for begrudging acceptance of a better return from LA -- that we demand Bloom holds out for:

"Well, at least we got Verdugo instead of Myers."

But any Betts trade will suck for 2020 because the Red Sox won't have Mookie...

pretty good conspiracy.

as for betts....agreed, it will hurt 2020 but by resetting LT (trading Mookie) maybe that means we get to keep Mookie from 2021-2031? would you do that deal?

And because they want fans to be pissed at Mookie because the FO has no intention of keeping him or bringing him back. :(

Which is what they did to Lester I believe.

@redsoxstats

The new Athletic story says we are approaching a resolution on Betts. Price is in play, but probability not with LA taking his full contract. Mentions building a package around MLB players and prospects. Verdugo, Gonsolin, Ruiz, Gray all mentioned as options.

Anyone have an Athletic log in?

According to Andy McCullough of The Athletic, the Dodgers front office "remains engaged with Boston" about a Mookie Betts trade.

McCullough further adds that the "dialogue with Boston has approached a resolution" in recent days. It's unclear what names are being discussed -- the Dodgers are known to be reluctant to part with top prospects Gavin Lux and Dustin May -- but the financial resources are there and Los Angeles could potentially take on both the $27 million that Betts is owed in 2020 and the $96 million that David Price is due between 2020-2022. It sure sounds like this thing has legs.

Recent rumor from MLBTR is that Price is involved in the talks. It’ll lessen the return, but free up more cash. As to what would go back to Boston, no clue

Fine with me. Seems like the Padres were so much more hesitant to take on salary that it wouldn't have helped the Sox achieve their goal of getting under the lux tax.

There's not a ton of new info there. I won't post lengthy excerpts out of respect for the paywall, but...

-Dodgers and Red Sox "remain engaged" and talks have "approached a resolution" in recent days.

-LAD doesn't want to part with elite prospects like Lux or May, but Enrique Hernandez, Chris Taylor, Verdugo, Gonsolin, Ruiz, and Gray are all mentioned as potential pieces in a package.

-However, Price is involved in some scenarios, which complicates things. Dodgers don't want to take on his full contract and aren't motivated to do so just to land Betts. "Two rival executives" say they wouldn't value him at more than $15M per year.

Again -- begrudgingly. As a fan in 2020, I hate the idea of giving up on 2020, especially before it even begins. Maybe the Sox and Mook have a secret arrangement -- which is highly doubtful, but makes one wonder how many tacit deals are agreed upon with players, agents, tamperers etc. that are never leaked to the press...

Those four. Though Kike and Taylor are Holt-type guys, which means Bloom-type guys...

Sox need to determine if paying half of Price's salary going forward is worth it to reduce payroll and use the money elsewhere (on a younger starter maybe). I'd say yes.

The trade simulator puts Betts and Verdugo at roughly equal surplus value, so getting Verdugo plus anything else significant would be a (very pleasant) surprise...if the Dodgers are also taking Price, it becomes even more far-fetched.

I would guess that Pollock or Pederson is more likely, but who knows.

Except the Holt isn't a Bloom guy apparently.

Workman is a FA after 2020, and trading Betts is further punting the season away for the future. I'm just adding to the futute.

Barnes has 2 years left and his stock dropped. Adding him was questionable but not illogical.

With no Betts (and or JBJ), I'd rather have Pollock and his contract than Eovaldi and his contract.

If we bring Betts back, Pollock plays CF.

Sorta true, but I'd trade Price for Myers straight up.

I'd probably trade Eovaldi for Pollock, too, assuming Betts or JBJ are traded. They are both owed about the same, but Pollock's AVV is $12M to Eovaldi's $17M.
