I've avoided this thread until now.

Suspend whoever you want for as long as you want, but please- no lost draft picks!

Astros lost 1st and 2nd draft picks for 2020 and 2021, if the commissioner follows the same reasoning, you'll lose some picks too

why let the Sox off the hook? they cheated too.

Because the commish works for the owners and I’m sure Henry can at least direct things so the manager cannot get cash from the Sox. Punishing Cora in this way punishes the man more than the team

They are going to lose picks and their manager. It's not being let off the hook. Probably a fine too.

The MLB statement on the Astros transgressions praised the Astros owner over and over.

Henry will be fine too.

Depends how severe or provable our cheating was.

good point. the video that circulated of the Astros with the audible trash can banging and the walkway video during the world series DVD set showing the table and trash can were pretty damning. ray rice wasnt really that bad until the video showed him dragging that girl out of the elevator by her hair......

@BarfontheField

Now that MLB laid the hammer down on the Astros for sign stealing the Red Sox gotta be next. Funny thing is I got reprimanded by the Sox brass in October ‘17 for tweeting that my Apple Watch only tells the time.

The Astros investigation lasted months and months. How long has the Sox investigation gone on?

See ya Alex nice knowin' ya.

Hinch and Lunhow DISMISSED by the Astros and Cora was all over the Astros report from 2017. They cannot give Cora less than Hinch and Henry will likely can Cora. The Astros report essentially calls Cora the brains of the scam with the cooperation of the players and some "low level front office personnel" as in stat geeks from the front office..

Astros' owner just fired Hinch and Lunhow.

Maybe Henry brought Bloom in when he did so he didn't have to fire his GM right before the next season...

This would be the first explanation of his firing that would make sense. The whole rebuild narrative always sounded like Message Board BS. It could be that DD wanted out of town to avoid any taint from this. Henry may have been doing him a favor for their long Association. It was not at all an acrimonious parting and it was sudden, unexpected, and until now, unexplained.

It’s still unexplsined if you like. At best this is a theory. After all, building a $240mill team that finishes 3 games over .500 is not exactly going to net someone any type of job security...

But he decided to let Cora stick around to face the music?

He has no long standing relationship with Cora. Plus, that would have caused clubhouse disruption and more rumors.

This is the first plausible explanation taking into account the timing.

Before I go and google around for some dates, what is it about the timing you find significant?

We have waiting waiting waiting for the big Move or moves and none of us probably expected that it would be a spanking new Manager. Meanwhile will have to wait even longer for the player moves, i wd guess.

Not fitting.

Henry didn’t “fire” Dombrowski to get ahead of this scandal and preserve the name of a longtime associate and then follow up by planting numerous stories in the media that Dombrowski was difficult to work with and fired due to his attitude.

Now it might be more plausible that Dombrowski spent too much, ruined the farm/future, and was difficult to work with. But this was tolerated because the team was winning, and had a recent title. But once the team stopped winning and it was revealed that the one title the Sox did get was due to cheating, it was too much...

I think the timing was related to the cheating scandal unfolding. It is highly unusual to fire a GM mid season. There was something else going on. JH knew he had hired a wheeler dealer and he had just won 3 divisions in a row, including a World Championship. I don’t think one off year (not a last place year — a staple of Ben Cher) would have prompted a precipitous firing. I’ll have to agree to disagree on this as your version doesn’t fit for me.

My prediction is that the sign stealing scandal is far from over, and it's going to drag other teams in and get very dirty by the time it's over.
