BREAKING: Houston Astros GM Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch have been suspended for one year after an MLB investigation found the team used technology to cheat during its World Series-winning 2017 season, sources familiar with the punishment tell ESPN.

I can just picture the defense argument.

"Technology? We were banging a garbage can!!"

More on penalties: MLB has placed former #Astros assistant GM Brandon Taubman on its ineligible list. Discipline for #RedSox manager Alex Cora, the Houston bench coach in 2017, will be determined after MLB completes its investigation of Boston.

Cora stands a chance to be implicated in both scandals. Think this affects his punishment?

Holy s***...yeah, I don't know if we'll be seeing Cora for a while.

Losing our first-round pick (#17 this year, I believe) might suck most of all, IMO. The system could really use a shot at an impact player from that spot.

From what I'm seeing on Twitter, Cora's name is all over the Astros report, and that's before MLB even completes its investigation into the Red Sox. Not looking good.

MLB says Alex Cora was involved in developing both schemes, in Houston and Boston. Discipline will be withheld until Sox investigation is complete.

No players were disciplined by Major League Baseball in the Astros' investigation. While Mets manager Carlos Beltran was part of it, he was a player at the time and thus was not suspended.

Discipline for Red Sox manager Alex Cora is coming. It is going to be harsh, per sources.

Major League Baseball issued harsh penalties against the Houston Astros on Monday after a lengthy investigation into the team's use of technology to steal signs. The sanctions, according to a report from The Athletic, include one-year suspensions for Astros manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow as well as a $5 million fine and the loss of future draft picks.

Here are the reported penalties:

One-year suspension for general manager Jeff Luhnow.

One-year suspension for manager A.J. Hinch.

The loss of first- and second-round draft picks in both 2020 and 2021.

A $5 million fine.

The placement of former Astros assistant GM Brandon Taubman on baseball's ineligible list.

MLB pretending to the public that no baseball teams will try to intercept secret codes contrived to deceive opponents ever again...

Now we have something almost tangible to discuss... Biggest future question of the offseason:

WHO will manage the Sox in 2020? A minion controlled by a Cora drone? A Bloom recruit? Varitek? Bobby V in a fake beard disguise?

WHO???

The bench coach Ron Roenicke who managed the Brewers for a few years.

Also, to keep the discussion in one place rather than two:

Cora isn't getting hit with a hammer unless it's oversized plastic one. Otherwise, it'd be assault.

FWIW, Jeff Passan is saying Cora's suspension "is bound to be far longer" than the 1 season that Luhnow and Hinch are getting...

Bloom is gonna get to choose his own manager.

This is what I am predicting.

They’re gonna hit the Sox with the same draft pick penalties and fines. They’ll hit Cora with a “lifetime ban” with the ability to apply for reinstatement in a year. This will force the Sox to hire a new manager and Cora’s contract will void. Cora gets to come back to the MLB for 2021 in some capacity after reinstatement and part of his reinstatement deal will be that he doesn’t seek any contractual retribution against the Sox.

You're just saying that because you want it to be true.

Henry will bring back Lovullo, who should've been appointed full-time skipper the year after he interimmed. They already offered Manny Sanguillen in trade.

I don’t “want this to happen” as it pertains to Cora. I don’t care who the manager is, but I do want draft picks to go. That’ll be a win for me

Just being the troll you are on a Red Sox board!

i've avoided this thread until now.

Suspend whoever you want for as long as you want, but please- no lost draft picks!

Seems fair honestly.

It’s the only way to allow the Sox to move on without financial retribution. Bloom probably wants his own manager anyway. My bet is Henry pushes the issue with Manfred to save him some $$$
